Last week, the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs kicked off with Justin Allgaier taking the checkered flag at the Food City 300 at Bristol. Who will join him in the Round of 8 with a win at today’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway (3:30 pm ET, USA)?
At Bristol, Allgaier led the most laps and took the checkered flag ahead of Daniel Hemric and John Hunter Nemechek, with Cole Custer finishing fourth and Chandler Smith rounding out the top five.
After this race, the Round of 12 will wrap up with the Drive for the Cure 250 at the Charlotte roval in two weeks. At this juncture, Jeb Burton, Sam Mayer, Parker Kligerman, and Josh Berry are the four drivers below the cutline for the Round of 8.
Current NASCAR Xfinity Series (After One Round of 12 Race)
- 1. John Hunter Nemechek – 2095 points (no change)
- 2. Justin Allgaier – 2085 (up one)
- 3. Cole Custer – 2069 (up one)
- 4. Austin Hill – 2051 (down two)
- 5. Chandler Smith – 2048 (up one)
- 6. Daniel Hemric – 2042 (up five)
- 7. Sammy Smith – 2035 (up two)
- 8. Sheldon Creed – 2034 (no change)
- 9. Jeb Burton – 2030 (up one)
- 10. Sam Mayer – 2020 (down five)
- 11. Parker Kligerman – 2012 (up one)
- 12. Josh Berry – 2010 (down five)
Things can drastically change from one race to the next, especially when it’s win and advance season, So, any of those four drivers could be in a much better spot after the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300. So could regular season champion Austin Hill, who is coming off of a disappointing result at Bristol.

Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 Predictions and Picks
Hill, the Xfinity Series regular season champion, was crashed out of the Food City 300 by teammate Creed and finished 33rd last week.
It was just the third time in 27 races this season that Hill finished outside of the top 20, following a 37th-place finish in the Pit Boss 250 at Circuit of the Americas and a 23rd-place finish in the Wawa 250 at Daytona.
Based on how consistently Hill has finished at or near the front all season, it is easy to make him the first finishing position pick this week. At BetUS, he is +115 to finish in the top five in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300. In last year’s edition of this race, he finished second behind winner Noah Gragson.
Next up is Berry, who isn’t in desperation mode at this point but needs to have a strong showing to help himself ahead of the trip to Charlotte. Berry finished sixth in this race last year, and he is +140 (at BetUS) to land in the top five this year.
My last non-winner pick for the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 is a head-to-head finishing position play for the Bayne vs Mayer matchup. Bayne won this race in 2011, and he will be in the Joe Gibbs Racing #19, which has had a lot of success this season.
But I’m rolling with Mayer (+110 vs Bayne’s -140 at BetUS) to achieve the better result. Mayer finished eighth in last year’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300, and he will need a similarly strong finish to boost his Round of 8 prospects.
But who will take the checkered flag today in Texas? In addition to Bayne, there are two other former race winners in the field in Custer (2018) and Nemechek (2021).
I’m backing the latter for the win, which would be his series-leading seventh of the season. He doesn’t need the win to be set for the Round of 8, but he has finished third, first, and third in his last three races, and I like him to keep that hot run going. The only thing that could cool him down, outside of possible misfortune, is some Andy’s Frozen Custard.
