See Picks & Statistics For The GameIt has been a woeful start to the season for the Houston Astros, but one bright spot has been starting pitcher Ronel Blanco. This afternoon, Blanco will look to continue his stellar start with a second straight gem against the Texas Rangers (4:05 pm ET, FS1).
Last night, the Rangers (8-6) opened this three-game series with a 12-8 win at Minute Maid Park. It was a fourth straight loss for the Astros, who have won just four times in their first 15 games this season.
Two of those wins, however, have come with Blanco on the mound. He tossed a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays 12 days ago, then delivered six more shutout innings in a win over the Rangers in Arlington last Sunday.
With how many runs that Houston has allowed over the last few days, another strong start for Blanco today would be a welcome sight. Will he deliver?

Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros Betting Analysis
After losing the first two games against the Rangers last weekend, the Astros did well to earn a series split behind Blanco’s efforts last Sunday and a big game by the bats in Monday’s series finale.
But Monday’s win at Globe Life Field is the high point of Houston’s week thus far. They were swept by the Royals in a three-game series in Kansas City, then continued their malaise with a rough night at home last night.
Over their last three losses, the Astros have given up 11, 13, and 12 runs and been outscored 36-13. Can it get worse? It certainly can, but Blanco’s turn on the bump couldn’t be coming at a better time.
Houston’s hitters may also be looking forward to another matchup with Heaney, who they hit hard in Monday’s 10-5 win.
In just 3.2 innings, Heaney allowed six runs, four hits, and three walks. He exited with a 5-4 lead, but Brock Burke allowed his two inherited runners to come across on an RBI double by Yordan Alvarez and a two-run single by Kyle Tucker.
It’s still very early in the season, and there’s plenty of time for a team with this level of talent to turn things around and have a good season.
A win today may not prove to be the catalyst for a turnaround, and things could get worse before they get better. However, this is a spot where the Astros are worth backing. Blanco is pitching very well, and the Astros did well at the plate against Heaney earlier this week.
