Which Teams Will Top the NHL Standings This Season?
Just as the 2022-23 NBA season produced a first-time champion (Denver Nuggets) and the 2023 MLB season produced a first-time champion (Texas Rangers), the 2022-23 NHL season saw the Vegas Golden Knights lift the hallowed Stanley Cup for the first time in their short history.
Five seasons after making the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season, the Golden Knights returned to the championship series, this time coming out on top against the Florida Panthers in five games.
This season, the Golden Knights will be aiming to become the latest team to lift the Cup in consecutive seasons, but they have a lot of quality competition in both conferences.
After winning the Presidents’ Trophy and setting an NHL record for most wins in a season, only to be stunned in the first round by the Panthers, the Boston Bruins are back for another crack at a title.
Other teams that should be in the mix are the Panthers, Avalanche, Hurricanes, Rangers, and Stars.
Could the Cup return to Canada for the first time since 1993? The Maple Leafs and Canucks are both potential contenders as well, but recent history indicates that it will be difficult for a Canadian team to reach the Stanley Cup Finals, much less win it.
