For many people who bet on sports, September is the best time of the year, as it means the start of a new National Football League season. Betting on the NFL is not an easy endeavor with the amount of betting options available for every game and all the factors and variables to consider for those bets. But if you follow the right NFL betting tips and strategies, you can have a positive and profitable 2024 season, even if your favorite team doesn’t have that same success.
What are some of the best betting tips that can set you up for success for the 2024 NFL season? There are a many great tips, but here are three that will put you on the right path to profit at any of the best U.S. betting sites.
Top NFL Betting Tips for the 2024 Season
NFL Betting Tip #1: Dallas Delivers
The Dallas Cowboys are one of the favored punching bags and punchlines for many media members and fans of rival teams. The main reason for this is their lack of playoff success relative to their level of talent, notoriety, and fan base.
However, Dallas is anything but a laughingstock for bettors.
Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, the Cowboys are projected to be favored in all but three of their regular season games: their season opener at Cleveland, a Week 8 contest at San Francisco, and their Week 17 visit to Philadelphia, as per Team Rankings.
Provided they stay healthy, this bodes well for bettors. Since 2021, the Cowboys are 32-9 SU (.781) and 28-13 ATS (.683) as a favorite, including 12-4 (.750) SU & ATS as a road favorite.
Both of those ATS marks are the best in the NFL. They are also the best in the league in division games since 2021, going 15-3 (.833) SU and 14-4 (.778) ATS against the Commanders, Eagles, and Giants.
2024 Schedule for the Dallas Cowboys
- at Cleveland Browns
- vs New Orleans Saints
- vs Baltimore Ravens
- at New York Giants (Thursday Night Football)
- at Pittsburgh Steelers (Sunday Night Football)
- vs Detroit Lions
- BYE
- at San Francisco 49ers (Sunday Night Football)
- at Atlanta Falcons
- vs Philadelphia Eagles
- vs Houston Texans (Monday Night Football)
- at Washington Commanders
- vs New York Giants (Thanksgiving Day)
- vs Cincinnati Bengals (Monday Night Football)
- at Carolina Panthers
- vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sunday Night Football)
- at Philadelphia Eagles
- vs Washington Commanders
In fact, few teams may have as significant of an impact on your NFL betting bankroll.
Additionally, when they do lose, you can feel good about betting on the Cowboys the next time out. Since 2021, they are 13-2 (.867) SU and 12-3 (.800) ATS in games following a loss. No other team has managed to cover in even 70% of their games following a loss in that span of time.
Whether the Cowboys can continue to thrive in all of these situations will depend on the health of key players like quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and pass rusher extraordinaire and NFL Defensive Player of the Year favorite Micah Parsons.
But if Dallas does stay healthy, backing them in the scenarios mentioned should prove to be one of the best NFL betting tips you could receive this season. They will have to pull their weight on the field, and there may be a few frustrating moments during the season, but in the long term, you may pull in a significant profit by picking the right spots with the Cowboys.
NFL Betting Tip #2: Back the Bengals in Non-Division Games
Since 2021, no team has been better at covering in non-division games than the Cincinnati Bengals.
In that timespan, they are 25-11-2 (.694) ATS against teams outside of the AFC North. Their 27-11 (.711) SU mark is bested only by the Kansas City Chiefs, who are 32-12 (.727) SU but only 23-19-2 (.548) ATS in non-division games since 2021.
Last season, they went 8-3 (.727) SU and 6-3-2 (.667) ATS in non-division games, even with quarterback Joe Burrow missing the final seven games after suffering a season-ending wrist injury.
Over the course of those seven games with Jake Browning as the starting QB, the Bengals were 3-1 SU and 2-1-1 ATS in four non-division games, with the only failed cover or outright win coming in a Week 17 loss at Kansas City, when they lost 25-17 as a seven-point underdog.
NFL Betting Tip #3: Strike Gold with San Fran Against NFC West Rivals
Just as the Cowboys own the NFC East and the Chiefs own the AFC West, the San Francisco 49ers rule the NFC West.
Since 2022, the 49ers are 12-1 (.923) SU and 10-3 (.769) ATS against the Cardinals, Rams, and Seahawks.
Both of those marks are first in the NFL. The Chiefs (10-2 SU) are the only other team to win 80% or more of their division games in that timespan, and the Miami Dolphins (10-3 ATS, .769) and Detroit Lions (9-3 ATS, .750) are the only other teams to cover in 70% or more of their division games in that timespan.
