We got a Western Conference showdown tonight between the Los Angeles Sparks and the Phoenix Mercury. These 2 teams met once this year and the Mercury won on the road by 19 points.
Los Angeles comes in on a 6-game losing streak. They are 4-13 this year and 2-8 in their last 10 games. On the road, they are a pitiful 1-9.
They suffered the loss of rookie Cameron Brink to an ACL tear. This team has some work to do. Newly acquired Dearica Hamby has been holding it down. She’s averaging 17.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories.
The Sparks struggle offensively and need to figure something out. They rank in the bottom of the league for points, field goal percentage and rebounds per game. It’s tough when you lost your core player in the offseason.
Defensively, they’re terrible to be blunt. They rank in the bottom of the league for defensive rating and turnovers. It’s going to be a challenge for them tonight against the Mercury.
Phoenix looks to bounce back after loss to the Lynx
Even though the Mercury are 8-8, they sit 4th in the West and don’t look half bad. They’re 5-5 in their last 10 games and are 6-2 at home. It should be interesting to see if they put on a show for the home crowd.
The return of Brittney Griner has been huge. She’s averaging 19.5 points and 7 rebounds per game. To go along with Griner, newly added Kahleah Copper has been killing it. She leads the team with 22.6 points per game.
Natasha Cloud was another great off-season grab. She’s averaging just about 11 points per game and dishing 7 dimes per game. Veteran Diana Taurasi is still doing her thing, averaging 16.3 points per game.
This team is shaky on defense though. They rank 8th in the league for both defensive rating and rebounding. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem this game given the opponent. On that note, let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

This is really hard. Let’s not over think this one. It’s the Mercury and we all know it.
Perfect bounce back spot for Phoenix at home against this banged up Los Angeles team. The Mercury should feed off that home crowd and look to get them roaring early. Taurasi and Copper will fire a few 3’s to see if they can get things going.
If they jump out to an early lead, this game could have blowout potential. I feel like it’s a strong possibility with the Mercury coming off 6 days rest. They’re going to be dying to get out there and ball.
I like Diana Taurasi to get 4+ assists priced at -105. She has hit this line in her last 5 games and in her last 3 out of 4 games vs the Sparks. Taurasi should hit this line with ease.
