When the Connecticut Sun last met the Las Vegas Aces, they handed the reigning WNBA champions what is their only loss to date this season.
It wasn’t quite revenge for the Aces’ 3-1 series win in their WNBA Finals showdown last season, but Connecticut’s 17-point win was an impressive result when the champs have been such a dominant force in 2023.
However, that matchup on June 8 was at Mohegan Sun Arena, the home arena for the Sun, and it was the second of two matchups in three days between the two teams. This afternoon, the top two teams in the league will face off in a rematch at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
Will A’ja Wilson and Las Vegas (14-1, 8-0 home) improve to 15-1 this season? Or will Alyssa Thomas and Connecticut (12-4, 7-1 away) wrap up a win of the season series? Read on for our Sun vs Aces prediction and picks, along with odds for the matchup.

Will the Aces Brush Aside Yet Another Opponent?
With a 12-4 record, the Sun are two games better in the win column in the Eastern Conference standings than Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and the New York Liberty (10-4).
On Wednesday, that Liberty team was in Las Vegas, and they left Michelob Ultra Arena with a 98-81 loss. For the Liberty, that defeat ended a four-game win streak in which they had scored at least 89 points in each game, and it also ended a five-game road win streak.
For the Aces, it was their seventh straight win since the loss to the Sun, and it was another comprehensive display of why WNBA championship betting odds have them as firm favorites over the Liberty and Sun.
Since being held to a season-low 77 points by Connecticut, the Aces have scored no fewer than 88 points and have averaged 95.4 points per game.
Also, close games have not been a hallmark of this win streak or of the entire campaign for the champs. Six of their seven consecutive wins have come by double digits–an 88-80 win over the Indiana Fever is the exception–and nine of their 14 wins overall this season have come by double digits.
Is there any hope for the Sun at all? They have held ten of their 16 opponents this season to under 80 points, including the Aces in the earlier meeting.
But the Aces are a whole different animal to contend with at Michelob Ultra Arena, and they have shown that time and again during their win streak.
They have been at home for six of the seven games, and they have averaged 94.9 points per game and racked up wins by 13, 33, 31, 13, 8, and 17 points.
If the Sun can’t keep the Aces from reaching the 80-point mark, they are likely in for a losing afternoon in Las Vegas.
This season, the Sun are 8-0 when they have allowed fewer than 80 points but are 2-4 when allowing 80 or more points. Dating back to last season (playoffs included), they are 12-17 when allowing 80 or more points and 31-4 when allowing fewer than 80 points.
Connecticut Sun vs Las Vegas Aces Prediction and Picks
Prediction for Sun vs Aces: Aces to win
Picks for Sun vs Aces: Aces -11.5 & Aces team total over 90.5 points
At their best, the Sun can give the Aces a serious challenge. But that is a big “can,” especially when you consider what the champs have done since their last meeting three weeks ago.
