With one of their stars back on the court and a run of winnable games coming up, the Las Vegas Aces have a chance to make a move up the WNBA standings in the coming weeks. First up, however, is a matchup with a fellow championship contender as the Connecticut Sun visit Michelob Ultra Arena tonight (10:00 pm ET, ION).
On Wednesday, star point guard and U.S. Olympic team selection Chelsea Gray made her 2024 season debut as the Aces (7-6) defeated the Seattle Storm 94-83. In 16 minutes of action, Gray, who had a career-best season in 2023 (15.4 PPG, 7.3 APG, 4.0 APG, 42.1% 3PT), dished out seven assists.
Following tonight’s matchup with the Sun (13-1), nine of the Aces’ last ten games before the Olympic break are against teams currently below .500. The lone exception is a July 10 visit to Seattle.
So, the two-time defending WNBA champions will have a chance to dig themselves at least partially out of the hole they find themselves due to their several early losses. Will they enter this upcoming favorable stretch with a victory over the hottest team in the league?

Connecticut Sun vs Las Vegas Aces Betting Analysis
Is this when we will finally start seeing the best version of the Aces?
For all the points they have scored this season—the Aces are first in the WNBA in scoring at 87.4 PPG—they haven’t done so consistently, and their defensive efforts have left something to be desired on numerous occasions.
With Gray back in the fold on Wednesday, the Aces shot 40.0% (8 of 20) from three and 55.6% (35 of 63) from the field overall and had 25 assists on their 35 made baskets. On the defensive end, they held the Storm to 25% (4 of 16) from three and 44.3% (31 of 70) from the field overall, and they forced 15 turnovers.
A strong effort on both ends will be needed tonight against the Sun, who lead the WNBA in scoring defense (70.7 PPG) and turnover differential (+4.1).
Offensively, Connecticut may not be on par with the Aces, Liberty, or Lynx. But they opened the season by averaging 86.6 PPG in their first five games and have averaged 84.0 PPG in their last four games since being held to 75 by the Liberty in their lone loss of the season.
To win tonight, they may need to flex their muscles offensively a bit more. Keeping the Aces under 80 points is not an easy feat. Only the Storm and Atlanta Dream have done so this season, and dating back to last season, the Aces have scored 80+ points in 45 of 53 regular season games.
It may take time for Gray to hit her stride, but the Aces are a complete unit with her healthy. Her return will prove to be a rather timely one, both tonight and going forward. The Sun have the WNBA’s best record, but the Aces will show why they’re still the team to beat tonight.
