Today’s Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever matchup isn’t the only one on today’s WNBA schedule featuring two teams in need of a win. In the other matchup, Dearica Hamby and the Los Angeles Sparks will visit Rhyne Howard and the Atlanta Dream (3:00 pm ET, ESPN3).
This is the third game of a seven-game road swing for the Sparks (4-9). They have opened their travels with losses to the Seattle Storm and Minnesota Lynx, and while the opposition for today’s game isn’t at all on the same level as the Storm and Lynx, the Sparks have a tough task in front of them to leave the Gateway Center with a victory.

Los Angeles Sparks vs Atlanta Dream Betting Analysis
While the Sparks have had a rough week against two of the WNBA’s best teams, the Dream have had a rough week against two of the league’s worst teams.
On Tuesday, they lost by 19 at home against the Washington Mystics, who won the first time this season after suffering a dozen consecutive losses to start the season.
That ugly performance was followed on Thursday by an improved showing on the road against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, but they still went down 91-84 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Mystics are last in the WNBA in scoring, but the Dream gave up a season-high 91 points in the loss.
With the schedule that the Dream have for the remainder of June, wins may be hard to come by over the next two weeks.
Remaining June Schedule for the Atlanta Dream
- vs Los Angeles Sparks (6/16)
- at Minnesota Lynx (6/19)
- vs Indiana Fever (6/21)
- vs New York Liberty (6/23)
- at Connecticut Sun (6/28)
- at New York Liberty (6/30)
Entering today’s action, the Dream are seventh in the WNBA standings. With what they have ahead over the next two weeks, a win today would be helpful for their hopes of still being in the top eight when the calendar turns from June to July.
The same can be said for the Sparks (4-9), who are a half-game behind the Sky (4-8) for eighth entering today. The rest of L.A.’s road swing is rather arduous, as they face the Sun (6/18), Liberty (6/20 and 6/22), and Phoenix Mercury (6/28) before returning home.
Who is likely to come out on top in this matchup? After defeating the Wings and Aces, the Sparks competed well before losing steam in the fourth quarter at Seattle and only lost by five at Minnesota, so there’s a lot to feel optimistic about if you are backing the road team, even though they are 1-5 on the road this season.
The Dream won the previous head-to-head matchup between these two teams, a 92-81 win in Long Beach on May 15. The 92 points and 11-point margin of victory in that season-opening victory remain season bests for Atlanta.
That game was an example of what the Dream can be. So was a May 31 win over the Aces, even if the two-time defending champs are struggling. But since that win, the Dream have won just once in five games. Most glaring is the fact that they have been held below 70 points in three of those losses.
Has their confidence gone missing? It could very well return today, but if it didn’t show against the Mystics or Fever, there’s not much reason to believe it will against the Sparks.
Los Angeles Sparks vs Atlanta Dream Prediction & Picks
Sparks vs Dream Prediction: Sparks to win
Sparks vs Dream Picks: Sparks +4.5 & Sparks/Dream over 158.5
Will we see more scoring than expected at the Gateway Center? That’s my thought here. The Sparks have given up 80 or more points ten times this season, including each of their six road games.
On the other side, the Dream have given up 80+ points six times in 11 games, but three of those times have been in their last three games. And if the Sky (8th in the WNBA in scoring), Mystics (last in the WNBA in scoring), and Fever (9th in the WNBA in scoring) could hit that mark, the Sparks (10th in the WNBA in scoring) can and should as well.
