Eastern Conference leading New York Liberty (18-6) head to the Cryto.com Arena to take on the Los Angeles Sparks (9-15). The Sparks are 4th in the Western Conference.
Los Angeles is 2-8 in their last 10 games, but those 2 wins came in their last 2 games. They are also 7-6 at home, but that’s about all they have going for them as they face the powerhouse that is the Liberty.
The Liberty just dropped their last game to the Lynx but are 8-2 in their last 10 games overall and on the road. This team has been on a mission all season with Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart leading the way.
This is the first game of a back-to-back for the two teams and their first matchups of the season. The Liberty come in as heavy favorites as expected. Their offense has been at the top of the league all season.
Ranking 2nd in points per game, 2nd in rebounds, 1st in assists, 1st in 3-point field goals and 3-point shooting percentage – the Liberty take no prisoners. The Liberty will look to continue their dominance against the Sparks.
Can the Sparks keep it up and make it 3 in a row?
Sparks star guard Nneka Ogwumike is coming off a 25-point, 9 rebound performance vs the Fever Thursday night. It was their 2nd game of this 3-game home stand.
Although they won their last 2 games, they were both against the Fever. They squeaked out a win in the 1st game by 1 point and then won the 2nd game comfortably by 13 points.
Jordin Canada has been contributing averaging 12.1 points and 6.5 assists per game in her last 10 games. She also just had 2 back-to-back 20+ points games.
In their 8 loses, they lost 5 of the games by double digits. They played the Aces and Dream in this stretch and didn’t fare well.
The Sparks rank 9th in points per game and 11th in field goal percentage. They also rank 11th in the league in rebounding and dead last in 3-point shooting. These struggles are what will give them serious problems against the Liberty.

New York Liberty vs Los Angeles Sparks Predictions and Picks
Pick: Liberty -9.5 (-110)
This Liberty team have been killing it this year. Bringing in Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones and Courtney Vandersloot have made such a huge impact.
Sabrina Ionescu has been playing such a strong all-around game. She is just coming off a 31 point, 7 rebound and 7 assist game vs the Lynx.
She is averaging 17.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game her last 6 games. Her overall game makes her so dangerous on the court because she is dangerous with or without the ball.
Expect Stewart and Jones to play their part with scoring and rebounding. Stewart is averaging 23 points per game in her last 6 games and Jones is averaging 12.6 rebounds per game in her last 5 games.
The Liberty should come in and do their thing. I expect them to look to get ahead early and play a high pace game. If they shoot well from 3 and crash the boards, then they should cover this spread.
Player Prop: Jonquel Jones O8.5 Rebounds (-113)
Jonquel has been making a living under the rim. She has cleared this line in her last 6 games and 5 of the games were in double digits. She’s also had a double double in 5 of her last 6 games.
She has helped elevate this team since her arrival and man has, she done just that. Averaging 11.8 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game, she is a key piece to this offense that helps open the floor for each other.
I think we see her crashing the boards hard just like she has been of late. Her size and power can help get those offensive rebounds for second chance opportunities. It’s too bad the books don’t have ladder options because I would take her to 12+.
