The Minnesota Lynx and Seattle Storm have had a lot of success over the years, but both proud franchises are coming off of disappointing seasons. Tonight, the two four-time champions will look to tip off the new season on a winning note as they meet at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle (10:00 pm ET, ESPN3).
After finishing over .500 only twice in their first dozen seasons, the Lynx won their first championship in 2011, beginning an 11-season stretch in which they won four titles, made six WNBA Finals appearances, and made the playoffs and finished over .500 each season.
But after going 14-22 and missing the postseason in 2022, they finished 19-21 last season, and though they returned to the playoffs, their stay ended in the first round at the hands of the Connecticut Sun.

The Storm, meanwhile, did not adjust well to life without Sue Bird, who retired after a long and illustrious career, and Breanna Stewart, who left Seattle for the bright lights of the Big Apple to join the New York Liberty.
Without Stewart, who went on to win WNBA MVP honors for the second time, the Storm went 11-29 and missed the playoffs for just the sixth time in their 24-season history.
But both Minnesota and Seattle made some changes in the offseason, but whereas the Storm are considered a potential championship contender, the Lynx are expected to languish near the bottom of the league standings.

Minnesota Lynx vs Seattle Storm Betting Analysis
In the offseason, the Storm made a major splash by signing Skyler Diggins-Smith and Nneka Ogwumike. Diggins-Smith and Ogwumike join forces with Jewell Loyd, who led the league in scoring last year (24.7 PPG), and All-Star center Ezi Magbegor (13.8 PPG, 8.1 RPG, 2.6 APG, 1.9 BPG) to give the Storm a strong core and a lot of reason for optimism for the season.
A return to the playoffs and a place in the top half of the WNBA standings is the bare minimum expectation for Seattle, and a win tonight is the expectation as well.
The Lynx return their top three scorers, Napheesa Collier (21.5 PPG), Kayla McBride (14.3 PPG), and Diamond Miller (12.1 PPG), and along with drafting Utah star Alissa Pili eighth overall, they made some interesting additions, including veteran guard Courtney Williams (10.4 PPG, 6.3 APG, 6.0 RPG, 44.3% 3PT last season with the Chicago Sky).
However, the outlook is a lot less optimistic for Minnesota. To open the season, they have the second lowest WNBA championship odds. Only the Washington Mystics (+10000) have longer odds than the Lynx, who sit at +6600.
But there is enough talent there to where they shouldn’t necessarily be written off for the season or tonight, especially because anything can happen when you are still breaking in a new core like the Storm are.
The Storm are a good bet to pull away in the second half and get the cover, but there’s some value in backing the Lynx to keep it tight in the first half.
