The Minnesota Lynx (13-13) just sneaked out an 87-83 win against the Connecticut Sun (18-7) on Sunday. They will meet again for the 2nd game of a back-to-back at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Kayla McBride led the way with 19 points, shooting 7/10 from the field and 4/7 from 3-point range. Aeiral Powers had 14 points and Jessica Shepard had 12 points and 14 rebounds as well. There were 5 players who all had 10+ points. These ladies stepped up with star Napheesa Collier out for a 2nd game in a row.
Collier has already been ruled out for Tuesday’s matchup. She is averaging 21.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game this season, so the team will need to continue to step up without her. Rachel Banham will also not play.
Lynx have now won 3 straight games to get back to the .500 mark. They’re 6-4 in their last 10 and 7-5 in their last 10 on the road. They’re only 3 games behind the Wings for 2nd in the Western Conference.
Surprisingly, the Sun couldn’t keep up with them on Sunday. They were out scored in the first 3 quarters and just couldn’t get it done in the 4th.
Alyssa Thomas recorded a Triple Double, her fourth of the season, and DeWanna Bonner led all scorers with 31 points. The offense was there, they just couldn’t stop the Lynx enough.
The Sun are really creeping up on the Liberty, only 2 games behind. After Sunday’s loss, Connecticut will have to make the adjustments to get a huge win.
Can the Lynx keep the streak alive without Collier?
Proven they can take on the challenge once, the Lynx will try to do it again. Players like Powers, Shepard, and McBride will be necessary. They combined for 45 of the teams 87 points. Shepard also had 14 rebounds.
Getting more offensive boards and turning the ball over less are needed. They were out rebounded on offense by 8 and turned the ball over 9 more times.
Without Collier though, they can only win so many games. They are now facing the same team back-to-back for the first-time during Collier’s injury which could make a huge difference.

Minnesota Lynx vs Connecticut Sun Predictions and Picks
Pick: Sun -11.5 (-105)
The Sun are not happy campers after Sunday’s loss. They are the better team, and it didn’t show last game. Although they’ll be looking to make a statement, they still have to deal with this pesky Lynx team.
The Lynx are going to be hungry to get 4 straight wins but will get overpowered this game. Sunday wasn’t even a blowout, so changes can be made. The Lynx almost blew the game at the end of the 4th quarter.
The Sun need to shoot the ball better. They only shot 39% from the floor and 18% from 3-point range, which isn’t going to cut it. The Sun have the 3rd best field goal percentage in the league, so look for a bounce back.
After watching tape of Sunday, the necessary adjustments will be made to take this game. They will find their groove; get their buckets and they should cover this line. Look for Bonner to have a big game and lead this team to a much-needed win.
Player Prop: DeWanna Bonner O19.5 Points (-113)
She is a force to be reckoned with. The Lynx had no answer for Bonner Sunday, and I don’t see that changing. She was 10 for 22 from the field and a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line. She struggled from 3 though, shooting 2 for 8, which hurt her field goal percentage.
Players like Alyssa Thomas make it easy for Bonner to get open looks and move with the basketball. Her length and power are also hard to match up against as well.
She has now had 2 back-to-back 30-point games and hit this line her last 4 out of 5 games. Bonner should see the same volume of shots and is just on a tear to not ride her points at this line. If she shoots better from 3-point range, we will see another 30-point game.
