On Thursday night, it looked like the Los Angeles Sparks would finally break their long losing streak. Instead, they fell apart in the final few minutes against the Minnesota Lynx and now carry an eight-game skid into tonight’s road game with the surging Dallas Wings (8:00 pm ET, Twitter).
Los Angeles rallied from a 20-point deficit to take a 68-61 lead with four minutes left in the fourth quarter at Minnesota. But the Lynx outscored the Sparks 12-2 down the stretch to pull out the 73-70 win and extend L.A.’s losing run.
It doesn’t stand to get any easier tonight in Dallas, as the Wings are piping hot right now. Are they an WNBA title contender? It remains to be seen, but they are a team full of confidence at the moment.
Will their winning ways continue tonight at home? My Sparks vs Wings prediction and picks are below, but before I break all of that down, here are the odds for tonight’s matchup at the College Park Center in Arlington, courtesy of BetUS.

Sparks Set to Miss Out on Season Sweep of Wings
When these two teams last met, the Sparks rode a huge game by Nneka Ogwumike (27 points, 12 rebounds) to a 93-83 win over the Wings on June 25.
The win, their third in three head-to-head meetings this season, took Los Angeles to 7-7 on the season, while it dropped Dallas to 6-8.
Since then, the Wings have won six of seven games, while that is the Sparks’ most recent win to date.
What has changed for each team? Well, for Dallas, there have been major strides defensively.
In their first 14 games, the Wings allowed an average of 85.4 points per game and gave up 90+ points five times. But in their 6-1 stretch, they have allowed an average of 76 points per game and have given up no more than 88 points, which they surrendered in Wednesday’s 98-88 road upset of the New York Liberty.
Last Seven Games for the Dallas Wings
- 77-62 win at Phoenix Mercury
- 89-72 win vs Washington Mystics
- 89-82 loss at Las Vegas Aces
- 80-78 win vs Las Vegas Aces
- 77-76 win at Indiana Fever
- 107-67 win at Minnesota Lynx
- 98-88 win at New York Liberty
That win showed just how high Dallas’s ceiling could be, and it featured the fourth double-double of the season for Teaira McCowan (15 points, 12 rebounds), who is an important piece on both ends of the court.
McCowan was injured in the first game of the season and missed ten games. When she returned, the Wings dropped two of three games, including two to the Sparks, but she has produced all four of her double-doubles this season in the seven games since.
Dallas Wings with and without Teaira McCowan
- With McCowan: 8-3 (4-0 at home, 4-3 away)
- Without McCowan: 4-6 (3-2 at home, 1-4 away)
While the Wings have benefitted from the return of McCowan, the Sparks have been hampered severely by various absences. Dearica is the only player on the team that has not missed a game all season, and a look down their roster shows a rash of missed games across the board.
That has affected them at both ends of the court, but their biggest struggles have been on the offensive end, where they have produced 80+ points only once in their losing streak.
Nneka Ogwumike scored 19 points in Thursday’s Sparks vs Lynx matchup, the 15th time this season she has scored 19 or more points this season. No one else scored more than 13 points, however.
It is worth noting though that those 13 points were scored by Lexie Brown in her first game since June 14. Brown (13.3 PPG, 42.9% 3PT) is the biggest perimeter threat for the Sparks, and she showed that in her return, hitting 3 of 6 from three against the Lynx.
Los Angeles Sparks vs Dallas Wings Prediction and Picks
Prediction for Sparks vs Wings: Wings to win
Pick for Sparks vs Wings: Wings -8 (-110)
Brown’s return makes the Sparks a better team, but will they be able to challenge the Wings tonight? Even with Brown back on the court, Los Angeles is still a little light offensively. I don’t see them being able to score enough to keep up even if they do enough defensively to avoid being blown out.
