Through the first two weeks of the WNBA season, the Minnesota Lynx have arguably been the most impressive team in the league, even more so than the 6-0 Connecticut Sun. Will their hot start continue tonight with a win over the Las Vegas Aces (8:00 pm ET, NBA TV).
To date, the only blemish for the Lynx (4-1) is last Thursday’s one-point overtime loss to the Sun. Their early ledger includes two wins over the Seattle Storm, a 17-point win over the New York Liberty, and a 13-point win at Atlanta the evening following their impressive result against New York.
Can they keep things up against the two-time defending WNBA champions? The Aces (3-1) scored a season-high 99 points in a win over the Indiana Fever on Saturday, but they have not been particularly dominant while navigating life without Chelsea Gray, who remains sidelined. Are they in for a difficult evening at the Target Center?

Las Vegas Aces vs Minnesota Lynx Betting Analysis
Without Gray, the Aces aren’t firing on all cylinders offensively. Still, they are first in the WNBA in scoring at 91.3 points per game. And since making only 6 of 29 from three in their season opener against the Phoenix Mercury, they have shot well from outside, making 37 of 97 (38.1%) in their last three games.
But things have been lacking a bit on the defensive end, which could come into play in tonight’s game.
This is a small sample size, obviously. There’s only so much you can read into about four games. But they have allowed 80+ points in each game, and they currently rank 10th in the league in scoring defense (85.0 PPG), ninth in field goal defense (44.8%), and last in three-point defense (41.8%).
That last number is especially glaring when they are giving 27.5 attempts (11th in the league) and 11.5 makes (last in the league) from outside per game.
Entering tonight’s game, the Lynx are first in the league in three-point accuracy, making 38.6% of their treys. In their two weekend wins over the Liberty and Dream, they were on fire from outside, making 14 of 28 (50.0%) in Saturday’s win over New York and 13 of 29 (44.8%) in Sunday’s win over Atlanta.
Veteran guard Kayla McBride and new addition Alanna Smith have been a big part of that success.
In her first five WNBA seasons, Smith shot only 24.9% from three and 42.4% overall from the field. In her first five games with the Lynx, she is shooting 64.1% (11 of 17) from three and 54.7% (29 of 53) overall from the field.
McBride has shot 40.0% or better from three only once in her career, but she is shooting 51.4% (18 of 35) thus far this season while shooting 53.7% (29 of 54) overall from the field.
Taking some early losses while without one of their key players doesn’t mean that the Aces aren’t still the best team in the league, but it means there might be a lot of opportunities to get in some good value in the meantime. Tonight is one of those, with the Lynx a good bet to not just push the champs all the way but to come away with the win.
