This weekend kicks off the 2nd round of the WNBA Playoffs and we have some good Semi-Final matchups. We got the best of East and the best of the West facing off against each other.
Let's go to the first game on the slate, the Connecticut Sun (21-13) vs the New York Liberty (32-8). The Liberty won their 1st series vs the Mystics in a 2-game sweep. The Sun needed all 3 games to get past the Lynx.
These 2 teams met 5 times this year with the Liberty winning all the games but the first one. It was also the first game of the season, so do what you want with that information. The last game was at the beginning of the month and the Liberty beat up the Sun, winning by 31-points.
New York has been one of the best teams in the league all season. Some would argue that they are the 2nd best team in the league behind the Las Vegas Aces. Now, I can’t argue that because that is the truth on paper…but that’s on paper. I think they are the best team in the league.
Brenna Stewart, Jonquel Jones and Courtney Vandersloot have all brought exactly what New York was expecting when bringing them all in this year. Sabrina Ionescu has thrived with all this talent around her.
With all that said about NY, the Liberty will have their hands full with the Suns’ Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner – one of the deadliest pairs in the WNBA this season.
Thomas had a breakout year, averaging career highs in rebounds and assists. She also had 6 triples doubles this year, the most by any player all time and in one season. Bonner led the team with 17.4 points per game along with 5.6 rebounds per game. Both ladies started all and played all 40 games this season.
The Liberty will have home court advantage, so they will host the Sun tomorrow and Tuesday night. They have put on a hell of a performance the first 2 games of the playoffs.

Connecticut Sun vs New York Liberty Prediction and Picks
Prediction & Pick: New York Liberty -7.5 (-114)
The Liberty have been waiting all year for this. This is what all the off-season trades and hard work this year has been for. They have their eyes set on the prize.
I wasn’t sure what the line was going to open at. I like 7.5 and think it’s the right spot. The Liberty won the 4 games this year by 31, 5, 8 and 26 points. At home, New York won by the 31 and 26 points, so home court advantage could play a role if necessary.
Expect the Liberty to come out fast and early. They’re going to want to control the pace of this game and will have to get going early to do so. Expect for scoring to come from multiplayer players as they should be moving the ball around a lot.
I think they’ll cover this line because they’re hungry and are ready for the finals.
Player Prop: Betnijah Laney O16.5 Points (+104)
This is an interesting line considering the way Laney has been playing. She has cleared this line in both playoff games and her last 7 out of 8 games. Out of those 7 games, 2 of them she had 17 points, but she is averaging 19 points over the last 2 games.
She’s averaging just about 15 points per game in her last 3 games vs the Sun. The Liberty have really found their grove and move the ball around well. Look for Laney to get fed from Ionescu and Vandersloot.
She has really emerged as the 5th star and completed the starting 5 for New York. The team is so dangerous offensive and defensively that isn’t even funny. I love for her to hit her points line and helping to keep the Liberty rolling.
