Now that the Washington Mystics are finally in the win column, will winning become contagious? We’ll see tonight if that is the case tonight as they host Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky at Entertainment and Sports Arena in D.C. (7:30 pm ET, ION).

Entering Tuesday night’s road matchup against the Atlanta Dream, the Mystics looked likely to suffer a 13^th straight loss. Instead, boosted significantly by the return of guard Brittney Sykes, Washington stunned Atlanta 87-68 to get a tangible reward for the effort that they had been putting in during their losing spell.

Will it be followed by a second straight win? Reese, a Maryland native, and the Sky are favored by a small margin tonight and have been better on the road than at home thus far this season. But they have dropped their last two games and will be facing a team that should be riding high on confidence even though they will once again be shorthanded.

Chicago Sky vs Washington Mystics Betting Analysis

As exciting as it had to be for the Mystics to pick up their first win of the season, it was quickly followed by some bad news.

Sykes, who scored 18 points in 14 minutes in her return to action after missing ten games due to a left ankle injury, suffered a left foot injury in the fourth quarter Tuesday.

Unfortunately for Washington, Sykes will miss tonight’s game and is expected to be out for some time, according to reports.

That is a huge blow for the Mystics to immediately lose Sykes once again, especially when she had such a big impact in her return.

In addition to Sykes, center Shakira Austin remains out due to hip issues. This will be the sixth straight missed game for Austin, who hasn’t played since Washington’s 90-79 loss to the New York Liberty on May 31.

Still, the Mystics can’t be written off tonight. Even with Sykes and Austin both out, Washington has competed hard, and this is a game that they can still win.

Tuesday’s victory marked the third straight game that the Mystics hit the 80-point mark. The last time they fell short was a 79-71 home loss to the Sky eight days ago. In that game, Washington scored 44 points in the first half and led by nine at the break. But they were outscored 25-10 in the third quarter and 44-27 in the second half in falling to 0-10.

Can the Mystics put together two good halves this time around? I think they can and will, even with Sykes sidelined again. The struggles they have dealt with have presented the opportunity for players up and down the roster to contribute, and that will be key to a victory tonight.
