Eastern Conference leading New York Liberty (22-6) will take on the 5th place Chicago Sky (12-16) tonight at the Barclays Center. New York is playing dominate basketball this year and will look to continue that tonight.
The Liberty are on a 4-game winning streak and are coming off an absolute stomping of the league leading and defending champs Las Vegas Aces. These NY ballers almost put up a 40 piece on them, winning by a score of 99-61.
Along with the win streak, they are 8-2 in their last 10 games. They have a home record of 11-4, which is solid, but 4 of their 6 losses on the year have been at home.
Regardless, this new Liberty team has been fantastic. They are getting all the results they were looking for when bringing in Breanna Stewart, Courtney Vandersloot and Jonquel Jones this past offseason.
Sabrina Ionescu has been playing a great all-around game, contributing is different areas in each game. She is averaging 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game this season so far. Since she is everywhere, some nights she’s putting up 30 and others, she’s dishing 12 dimes or grabbing 10 boards.
This Liberty team ranks in the top 2 in the league for points per game, rebounds per game and assists per game. They are also 2nd in the league for defensive rating. Safe to say the whole team has learned to play an all-around game.
Chicago Sky coming into New York with their work cut out for them
These 2 teams met twice in a back-to-back in the beginning of June. They split the 2 games, both winning 1 each. Chicago only lost by 1 point vs winning by 4 points in their victory.
The 1st game was a very low scoring game, ending 77-76 in favor of the Liberty. Sky star Kahleah Copper has 20 points 9 rebounds to keep her team in the game.
In the 2nd game, Copper put up 27 points and 7 rebounds to lead her team to an 86-82 win. The Sky are going to need to lean heavily on Copper to be able to contend again. Marina Mabrey and Courtney Williams will have to contribute their averages at the minimum.
One thing that stands out to me in this coming game vs the past 2 is a lot has changed since the beginning of June. The Liberty are rolling right now and are going to come in with high confidence after the beat down they laid on the Aces.

Chicago Sky vs New York Liberty Predictions and Picks
Pick: New York Liberty -13.5 (-108)
We’re much further into the season than their first 2 matchups. We are looking at 2 different teams now. One who has crazy momentum and the other who is barely alive.
New York is going to try and carry that buzz from the beatdown of the Aces. This is the 2nd game of a home back-to-back for the Liberty and they’re going to want to show out for the home crowd.
Expect them to shoot a lot of 3’s as they do best and lead the league. They’re going to want to get cooking early from behind the arch. Ionescu and Vandersloot will be dishing the ball while Stewart and Jones clean the glass.
We’re getting to the no messing around point in the season and the Liberty know it. They didn’t sign all these players in the offseason to not become a serious contender and they have done just that.
I know the first 2 games were close, but not this time. I think the Liberty go in there and handle business easily. This game can easily become a blowout like the Liberty’s last game.
Player Prop: Jonquel Jones O9.5 Rebounds (-113)
Jonquel has been a rebound machine so far this year. She’s averaging 8.4 per game, but her numbers lately are insane.
She’s hit this number in 8 of her last 9 games and in convincing fashion. She had 11 three times, 13 twice, 14 once and 17 twice.
She’s averaging just under 29 mins per game in her last 5 games, so the time on the floor is there. Another sneaky play would be her to Record a Double Double for +125. She has recorded one in 7 of her last 9 games.
