The WNBA regular season has been paused because it’s time for the 2024 All-Star Weekend! While a good chunk of women’s basketball fans are only focused on Saturday’s Team WNBA vs. Team USA showdown, many people are also excited for Friday’s skills competition.
After all, there’s nothing like watching today’s stars display the skills that set them apart from the average human. While there isn’t a dunk contest like its NBA counterpart, the WNBA festivities will entertain with the skills challenge, three-point contest, and 3-on-3 showcase.
The 2024 WNBA All-Star Skills Competition also boasts its fair share of betting markets, which is why this article is here to preview tonight’s contests and their best bets.

WNBA All-Star 2024: Skills Challenge Odds & Best Bets
All WNBA All-Star Game and skill competition odds are courtesy of BetOnline at 12:32 p.m. ET on Friday, July 19.
- Erica Wheeler, Indiana Fever (+300)
- Marina Mabrey, Chicago Sky (+325)
- Sophie Cunningham, Phoenix Mercury (+325)
- Allisha Gray, Atlanta Dream (+350)
- Brittney Griner, Phoenix Mercury (+350)
As you can see, the 2024 WNBA Skills Challenge is shaping up to be a close-fought battle. The Indiana Fever’s Erica Wheeler might be the odds-on favorite at +300, but the other four competitors are all within striking distance between +325 and +350 odds.
This year’s Skill Challenge is fairly straightforward again. Each of the five women will run an obstacle course that will test their passing, dribbling, and shooting. The two fastest competitors from Round 1 will advance to the finals where they’ll run the course again, this time deciding the winner.
With the odds being as close as they are, I’ll take Gray to win it all. The 29-year-old veteran is already doing a bit of everything with the Dream this season, averaging 15.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists with 1.7 threes made on a 36.0% success rate. She also just competed in the challenge last year and is the only one in this group who’s taken part in this contest outside of Brittney Griner.
That experience should pay off tonight.

WNBA All-Star 2024: 3-Point Contest Odds & Best Bets
- Kayla McBride, Minnesota Lynx (+100)
- Marina Mabrey, Chicago Sky (+350)
- Stefanie Dolson, Washington Mystics (+375)
- Jonquel Jones, New York Liberty (+475)
- Alisha Gray, Atlanta Dream (+1000)
The three-point contest is always an exciting part of the WNBA All-Star Weekend and this year isn’t any different. Competitors will shoot five balls from five racks around the arc with one rack containing two-point moneyballs, as well as two deep-range shots worth three points apiece. The two contestants with the best score after one round will go head-to-head to decide a winner.
Sabrina Ionescu won last year’s contest with a record-breaking 37-of-40 final-round score, however, she won’t be participating in the 2024 event.
Instead, Kayla McBride is the +100 favorite to win the three-point contest and it isn’t difficult to see why. Not only has she partaken in this event before (2018), but she’s also averaging a career-high 3.0 threes made on 42.7% shooting this season. She’s also made more three-pointers this season (76) than Caitlin Clark (71) on 39 fewer attempts.
As solid as the rest of the field is, I don’t see anyone posing a threat to McBride. Marina Mabrey and Alisha Gray are both focusing on the skills challenge, too, while Stefanie Dolson only shot 33.3% on 3.0 attempts from deep in her last four games before the break. Jonquel Jones has been a past three-point competitor as well, however, she’s tougher to trust with a 26.1 3P% in her last seven WNBA games.
In other words, it’s best to stick with the favorite here, too.

WNBA All-Star 2024: 3-on-3 Showcase
New to the WNBA All-Star weekend is the 3-on-3 showcase. After winning gold in 3-on-3 basketball, Team USA women’s team will face the U23 national team in a 10-minute showdown. The object of the 10-minute contest is to reach 21 points, however, if that doesn’t happen, the team with the most points at the buzzer wins.
There aren’t any odds for the matchup, unfortunately, but here’s how the two rosters look:
Team USA Women’s 3-on-3 Roster
- Cierra Burdick, Valencia Basket
- Dearica Hamby, Los Angeles Sparks
- Rhyne Howard, Atlanta Dream
- Hailey Van Lith, TCU
USA U23 Women’s 3-on-3 Roster
- Christina Dalce, Maryland
- Morgan Maly, Creighton
- Cotie McMahon, Ohio State
- Lucy Olsen, Iowa
- Mikaylah Williams, LSU
- Serah Williams, Wisconsin
Even though the U23 team has promise, you can’t go against the reigning gold medalists here. Team USA will put on a show as they overcome their younger counterparts.
