So far, chalk has mostly taken care of business at this week’s ATP event in Barcelona, with underdogs winning only a handful of matches across the first two days of the 2022 Barcelona Open. Will that remain the case on day three?
Yesterday’s most notable result saw underdog Carlos Taberner dispatch young American Seb Korda 6-3, 6-0. Korda impressively knocked out Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 32 at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week, but he has exited the tournament in the round of 64 this week.
Today, Taberner will be looking to score an even bigger upset, as he takes on #3 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the round of 32.
Along with Auger-Aliassime, #1 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and #5 seed Alcaraz will both be looking to advance to the last 16 and join #2 seed Casper Ruud and #4 seed Cameron Norrie, who won their round of 32 matches on Tuesday. While Ruud won in straight sets, Norrie needed three sets and over two and a half hours to get past Egor Gerasimov 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Here’s a look at today’s men’s singles schedule in Barcelona and the odds for each match.

ATP Barcelona 2022 Predictions and Picks for Day Three
Which Seeds Are Likely to Go Home on Wednesday?
There are a number of seeded players in the field who aren’t excellent or experienced on clay and are going up against players who are one or both of those, and the odds bear that out. So, if the likes of Basilashvili, Bublik, Tiafoe, and even Auger-Aliassime exit today, it won’t be surprising.
And then there’s the unpredictable Dimitrov, who can be a world-beater one day and, well, not a world-beater the next.
Last week, Dimitrov reached the Monte-Carlo Masters semis, beating Ruud (world number seven), Hubert Hurkacz (#14), and Basilashvili (#20) in the process.
But he had a disappointing end to his otherwise impressive run. He was up a break in the third set against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, then after failing to convert on three chances to go up a double-break, he lost his composure and won only one more game.
So, it will be interesting to see if that carries over to a potentially challenging match against Coria, or if he will instead be buoyed by his best tournament result thus far on the 2022 ATP calendar.
Where is the Best Betting Value?
Best ATP Barcelona Value Pick of the Day: Federico Delbonis (+120) to win vs. Marton Fucsovics
If you are looking strictly at moneylines, the best tennis betting value is with Federico Delbonis, who is seeded but a slight underdog against Marton Fucsovics.
Neither player is in great form at the moment, but clay is Delbonis’s favorite surface, and when it’s out of form vs. out of form, I prefer to take my chances with the underdog, especially if said underdog is on a surface that he likes.
Delbonis has won only two of his last nine matches, but he did pick up a solid win over Jaume Munar at Monte-Carlo and had a chance to send his round of 32 match against #2 seed Alexander Zverev to a third set before squandering a 4-2 advantage in the second set.
Best ATP Barcelona Bets of the Day: Carlos Taberner (-146) to win a set vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime & Carlos Taberner (-120) over 11.5 games won
Taberner is also a great low-risk option against Auger-Aliassime. On talent alone, the Canadian is certainly the superior player.
But he has had a big drop-off in form after a fantastic start to the season, which included his first ATP title. He enters his meeting with Taberner with only one win in his last six matches and lost in straight sets to Lorenzo Musetti in the round of 32 at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Taberner has not had a lot of success in ATP main tour events, but his win over Korda should send him into this match with a lot of confidence. Even if he doesn’t pull off the win, he will be very competitive and at least win a set.
Other ATP Barcelona Day Three Picks
- Alberto Ramos Vinolas to win 2-0 vs. Lloyd Harris (+1
- Pablo Carreno Busta to win 2-0 vs. Bernabe Zapata Miralles (-120)
- Bublik vs. Ruusuvuori – both players to win a set (+118)
