After all of the upsets that have occurred in the 2022 French Open women’s singles draw, the top player in the field, Iga Swiatek, is still standing, with a chance to make some history.
To make that history and grab her second Grand Slam singles title, she will have to prevent another top young star from picking up her first.
Two years ago, Swiatek had her crowning moment at Roland Garros as she completed a stunning run as an unseeded player by defeating American Sofia Kenin in the final.
In tomorrow’s final in Paris, Swiatek will have to see off another American, but this time she will do it as the #1 seed, the world number one, and the winner of 34 consecutive matches.
The American she will take on this time around is #18 seed Coco Gauff, who will be aiming to complete the first part of a singles & doubles title double.
If Swiatek can capture her second French Open singles title in three years, she will tie Venus Williams for the most consecutive match wins since the 2000 season.

2022 French Open Women’s Singles Final Prediction and Picks
Given how dominant Swiatek had been leading up to the French Open, it is no surprise that she has carried that dominance into her two weeks in Paris.
If there is a surprise, it is that she actually lost a set, in her fourth-round win over Qinwen Zheng. But since that jolt, Swiatek has lost just ten games in six sets. She did get broken in her second service game of her match against Kasatkina, but after holding her serve in the following game, the Russian won only one more game the rest of the way in Swiatek’s latest ruthless display.
The world number one is certainly a headline-grabber and must-see TV, but Gauff’s run has been plenty impressive as well. She has yet to drop a set in the tournament, and she has not found herself in trouble spots very often.
Swiatek has arguably had the tougher road, given that she has had to beat two seeded players whereas Gauff has had to beat only one. But that doesn’t diminish what the 18-year-old has had done against a number of experienced players, including a former Grand Slam champ in Stephens.
Ultimately, this match will come down to two factors. Will Swiatek give Gauff a sniff on her serve? And will she be able to frustrate the first-time finalist like she has opponent after opponent after opponent?
It’s an absolute must for Gauff to stay steady on her serve, but she will need to force Swiatek into making even just a few mistakes on her own serve and try to extend sets. If she can extend sets, she can perhaps frustrate the favorite into a wobble like she had against Zheng.

Swiatek vs. Gauff Betting Tip – Gauff under 7.5 games (-118 at BetOnline) & total match games under 19.5 (-122 at BetUS)
Gauff’s best is yet to come–and it will come–and she will have a second chance to come away with a title this weekend, as she and Jessica Pegula will meet Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic in the women’s doubles final on Sunday.
But she will come up short against Swiatek, and there won’t be any shame in that. The world number one is too good right now, and she will finish off a fantastic fortnight in France with her second title.
