This is it. The game to decide it all.
We have finally reached the 2023 Women’s World Cup Final Match.
Spain and England have fought long, hard battles to get here, and now they face off overnight in a winner-takes-all match.
Let’s talk about how we got here and why England might lift their 2nd major trophy in less than 13 months.
Spain & England Tournament Recap
If you clicked on that tweet and watched the video, that pretty much summed it all up!
Spain finished 2nd in Group C, shutting out Zambia and Costa Rica but getting shutout 4-0 by Group Winner Japan. The Japanese went on to lose to Sweden in the Quarterfinals.
In the knockout rounds, Spain beat Switzerland, the Netherlands in Extra Time, and then Sweden in the Semifinals after a very exciting final 10 minutes.
The Spanish scored in the 81st to go up 1-0, only to have Sweden tie it in the 88th.
Just a minute later, Spain won it in the 89th off a rocket by Olga Carmona, advancing the Cup Final.
The Euro 2022 Champion Lionesses of England have yet to be defeated this World Cup. They swept the group stage, outscoring opponents 8-1 in the process.
After drawing nil-nil with Nigeria, they advanced on PKs in the Round of 16, but then they really turned it on.
They beat Colombia 2-1 in the quarterfinals, and smashed our hosts, Australia, 3-1 to advance to their first Women’s World Cup Final Match.
Who will lift the trophy?

Spain vs England Best Bets
These ladies lifted the most prestigious trophy in European soccer just over a year ago.
On July 31st, 2022, the Lionesses beat Germany 2-1 in extra time to hoist the cup for the first time.
They do the same thing bright and early tomorrow.
The Pick: England to Lift Trophy (-105) Bovada
This English team has momentum, and they haven’t lost a competitive international match since before last year’s Euros.
In fact at last year’s Euros, these teams played in the quarterfinals.
After a scoreless first half, Spain took a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute, and held that lead for a half hour. However, in the 84th minute, England was able to tie the game thanks to Ella Toone and force extra time.
Just six minutes into extra time, Georgia Stanway found the back of the net for the Lionesses, and the rest is history.
Here’s the kicker for me.
This is Spain’s first World Cup or Euro Cup Final. Before the 2023 Women’s World Cup, they only made one major semifinal before this (1997 Women’s Euro).
England has been the Euro Runner Ups in 1984 and 2006, and the defending Champion in 2022. They have also made three other Euro Semifinals (1987, 1995, 2017).
The Lionesses also took 3rd at the World Cup in 2015, and 4th in 2019.
Now they finally have a chance to get over the hump.
They are on a roll, they have more experience in these situations, it’s their year.
The Lionesses Lift the Trophy.
Roar.
Bonus Bet: Both Team to Score Yes (+108) Bovada
This is more of a fun sweat to root for goals, but we saw both teams score the last time they played.
All three of Spain’s knockout games have included both teams scoring, and the past two for England have done the same.
Truth be told, I think we see a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
The Lionesses will either win it in Extra Time thanks to Chloe Kelly (Just like in the Euros, yes, I know), or they will find a way to win on PKs.
Either way, England takes home the Euros and the World Cup, something the men’s team couldn’t do.
