Through the first four rounds of the 2025 Major League Soccer season, the Vancouver Whitecaps, surprisingly, are the only perfect team. Tonight, the Whitecaps will put that mark on the line at home against the Chicago Fire (10:30 pm ET, MLS Season Pass).
In the Whitecaps’ first 14 MLS seasons, their best four-game start had been in 2014, when they lost their opener to Toronto FC then defeated the Fire, Orlando City, and the Portland Timbers as part of a four-game win streak.
That season saw Vancouver finish second in the Western Conference standings, a result that they have not equaled or bettered in the seasons since.
But with wins over the Timbers, LA Galaxy, CF Montreal, and FC Dallas, the Whitecaps entered this round of MLS matchups atop the Western Conference standings. They sit points clear of San Diego FC, St. Louis City SC, and the Colorado Rapids.
While the Fire haven’t had a similarly stellar start, they have had a very solid one under former USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter. Berhalter has made an early imprint after being hired as head coach and director of football last October, three months after his tenure with the national team ended last July.
They opened the season by letting leads slip in a loss to the Columbus Crew and a draw against D.C. United, but they enter their matchup with the Whitecaps off the back of consecutive road wins over FC Dallas and Toronto FC.
There is a little extra personal touch on tonight’s matchup at BC Place. Berhalter’s son, Sebastian, is a midfielder for the Whitecaps and should be in the starting lineup after starting the first four games.
Which Berhalter will come away victorious tonight? Read on for the best bets for this intriguing MLS matchup.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs Chicago Fire Prediction and Best Bets
The signs point favorably to goals tonight in Vancouver, and early goals at that.
The Whitecaps have scored the first goal in every game, and that opener had been in the first half of each game until they were made to wait until the 57th minute for the lone goal in last Saturday’s 1-0 win at FC Dallas.
Bettors should love that info, as well as the Fire allowing the first goal in all four of their games. Three of those times have been in the first half and within the first 20 minutes.
At Bovada, Vancouver is -165 to score the first goal, which is a bit juicy but worthwhile when the likelihood of success is high.
Many of the best online sportsbooks have goal timing odds available for live betting. If you have a chance to jump on them, don’t dally.
Taking the over for the first half also carries some appeal, as the Fire have scored five and allowed five in the first 45 minutes thus far. Taking the over 1 at BetOnline is safe as it protects you if only one goal is scored, but Bovada has over 1, 1.5 odds—you get half of your winnings and lose half of your stake if only one goal is scored and win both halves if two or more goals are scored—for plus odds.
So, there’s a lot of potential value here, even if you don’t do any moneyline or over/under betting on the full game. But if you do want to bet on the outcome, a home win is the move. Vancouver is in good form, and that should continue tonight at home.
