We originally started with 16 teams, but we are down to our final 8 in the Olympic Men’s Soccer tournament! The quarterfinals begin tomorrow so it’s time we find out best bets in the first knockout round matches. In these elimination rounds, it is important to understand the format of each match and the overall competition. For Paris 2024, matches that are still even after 90 minutes will see two 15 minute extra time periods with stoppage time included. If still tied, matches will go into penalty kicks.
Here is how the bracket looks!
- Morocco vs United States
- Japan vs Spain
- Egypt vs Paraguay
- France vs Argentina
We have some very thrilling matchups in the quarterfinals with France vs Argentina facing off and Japan against Spain, who have looked like the two best teams in the tournament so far. Let’s check out each matchup and find our best bets on the pitch!

We are paying some incredible juice here in this match, but I sincerely think it stays under 2 for 90 minutes. These have been the two best teams in the Olympic tournament from the start. Japan swept their entire group and didn’t allow a single goal in all three matches. Defense wins championships, and I’m sure the Japanese know they are outmatched on offense, and will look for their defense to hold strong today.
As for the Spanish, they are actually coming off a loss to Egypt where their group was taken directly from them. They should have extra motivation with that, especially considering their senior team was able to win the EUROs. Wouldn’t it be cool to win that tournament and take home a Gold Medal for your country in the same year? Point being, with the two best teams in the tournament, I think Japan’s defense holds strong against the Spanish attack. Ultimately I could see this being a 1-0 win in either direction, but regardless, I think we see 90 minutes stay under 2.5.
Again, this is a 90 minute bet, which is why I am okay with the juice, and at worst I think this is 1-1 going into extra time.

I think taking a stab at Egypt in 90 with some push potential is worth it in this scenario. For starters, they won their group. Nobody can deny that, and that included beating Spain in the 3rd group stage match. The other reason is I have not been impressed with Paraguay. They got the doors blown off them against Japan losing 5-0 in their first match, and then beat two very inferior teams. However I think Egypt is more battle tested as of recently, and is simply playing better soccer at the moment.
Paraguay snuck by Mali 1-0 in their final match, scoring in the 5th minute but producing just 3 total shots on target. Against a team like Egypt, they are going to need to score much more. Egypt produced 21 total attempts and 10 on target against the Spaniards, and Paraguay’s backline does not compare. I could easily see Egypt creating another 20+ shots and putting the Paraguayan keeper to work. For plus money and push potential, I’ll back Egypt to get the job done in 90 minutes.
