We have quite the exciting matchup across the pond, but we’ve also got a thriller in the English Premier League as Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield. Yes, the Patriots and Jaguars will be playing in England as well at Wembley Stadium, but we needed to check out this exciting matchup on the pitch as EPL play returns and UEFA Champions League action resumes this week.

Both of these teams are in fantastic form as it currently stands, and both have had a full two weeks of rest. Since losing to Nottingham Forest at home, Liverpool has won 6 straight contests in all competitions. They have outscored opponents 10-1 in three straight wins at home, but Chelsea will be their toughest task since facing AC Milan in the UCL.

Chelsea currently sit at 6th in the English Premier League standings, with 4 wins, 2 draws and a loss. They just played Forest to a 1-1 draw at home, but were more than likely projecting their focus onto this matchup. Chelsea is not shy about scoring this season. They have only been shutout once, in their season opener against Manchester City, and I expect them to compete well with Liverpool.

Can they find a way to take down the EPL’s top dawg? Or will Liverpool roll at home today?

Will Chelsea Find a Way to Win at Anfield?

Chelsea haven’t beaten Liverpool in a while. Last season, Liverpool beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup in February 1-nil, and then dominated them in the Premier League 4-1 at Anfield. In their meeting in Chelsea, the teams played to a 1-1 draw, and two nil-nil draws the year before that.

This could be the year that Chelsea finally has the offensive weapons to compete with Liverpool, however, given the time off, I think the home team will be just fine. Sure, they dropped a very easy one to Nottingham Forest. They took it on the chin, and have turned things around for six straight wins, absolutely demolishing anyone who stands in their way. Now, Liverpool could be looking ahead to not only playing RB Leipzig on the road on Wednesday in the UCL, but also to playing Arsenal on the road a week from today.

Because of this, I don’t think we see the electricity of the Liverpool offense that we are used to, and instead see them playing more conservative, doing simply what it will take to win. I do think Liverpool pulls it off, but not without a bit of worry from Chelsea. Both teams should be able to produce their fair share of chances in today’s match, but I’ve got to lean with the home side defensively and in goal.

This total seems far too high for me, and of course, I’ll bet on an under to get our Sunday started.

Get ready to sweat to start your Sunday. Although Liverpool is dominating teams, they have only scored 5 total goals in their last three matches while only allowing one. I see them being extra conservative against a Chelsea team that is scoring at an unprecedented rate. Liverpool will certainly respect the form their opponent is in, and find ways to push for goals on the counter attack.

Ultimately, I think Liverpool is the more talented team here. With multiple weeks of rest for both teams, I don’t see the “look ahead” narrative surrounding Liverpool, and like them to get the job done today. You could feel free to pair Liverpool ML with Under 4.5 goals for (+133) if you would like, but I’ll just bet on a boring 90 minutes of soccer and put a unit on the under 3.5 at (-104).
