The English Premier League season is hitting the home stretch, and the final several weeks of the season promise to be high on thrills.
At the top of the table, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City are battling it out for the title with seven matches left for all three teams.
Arsenal, who are seeking their first EPL title since 2004, and Liverpool are level on points, with the Gunners holding a superior goal difference. City, who have won the last three titles, are only one point behind.
At the bottom of the table, plucky promoted side Luton Town are fighting it out for safety with deduction duo Everton and Nottingham Forest, as well as Brentford and Crystal Palace.
Two players who will be key to the outcome of this season’s EPL title race are Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Haaland (a league-record 36 goals last season) and Salah (23 goals in the 2021/22 season, tied with Tottenham’s Son Heung-min) are the two most recent Premier League Golden Boot winners, and one of the two may win the award again this season.
Entering this weekend’s round of matches, Haaland is the Premier League’s current top scorer. Salah is third, with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins between the two and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke rounding out the top five.
English Premier League Top Scorers for the 2023/24 Season (Entering Round 33)
- Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 19
- Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) – 18
- Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 17
- Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – 16
- Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth) – 16
- Son Heung-min (Tottenham) – 15
- Jarrod Bowen (West Ham) – 15
- Alexander Isak (Newcastle) – 15
- Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) – 14
- Phil Foden (Manchester City) – 14
While anyone in this top ten could very well end up at the top of the EPL scoring charts come May 19, the Golden Boot winner will likely come from that top trio of Haaland, Watkins, and Salah.

Who Will Be the EPL’s Top Scorer This Season?
This season, Haaland hasn’t hit the heights that he did last season, when he scored 52 goals in 53 games in all competitions. Still, he has 19 Premier League goals in 25 matches and 30 in 37 in all competitions. That is a strong return, even if it does represent a statistical drop-off.
I don’t think his odds should be this short, however.
His goal in last weekend’s 4-2 win at Crystal Palace is his only goal in his last five Premier League matches. And Watkins, Salah, and a hard-charging Palmer, who has scored six goals in his last four league matches, are all within striking distance.
Here is how the remainder of the season shakes out for each of the top contenders in the Premier League Golden Boot race:
- Haaland: vs Luton, at Brighton, at Nottingham Forest, vs Wolves, at Fulham, at Tottenham, vs West Ham
- Watkins: at Arsenal, vs Bournemouth, vs Chelsea, at Brighton, vs Liverpool, at Crystal Palace
- Salah: vs Crystal Palace, at Fulham, at Everton, at West Ham, vs Spurs, at Aston Villa, vs Wolves
- Palmer: vs Everton, at Arsenal, at Aston Villa, vs Tottenham, vs West Ham, at Nottingham Forest, at Brighton, vs Bournemouth
- Son: at Newcastle, vs Arsenal, at Chelsea, at Liverpool, vs Burnley, vs Manchester City, at Sheffield United
- Solanke: vs Manchester United, at Aston Villa, at Wolves, vs Brighton, at Arsenal, vs Brentford, at Chelsea
