Today we have a battle between Aston Villa (13-4-4) and Newcastle United (9-2-10) at Villa Park. The last time these 2 teams met was last August and Newcastle won 5-1. I’m sure Aston Villa has not forgot.
Aston Villa plays their first home game in a month. The last time they played at home was December 30th, which was a 3-2 win vs Burnley.
In their last 5 overall games. Aston Villa is 2-2-1. They drew their last EPL game vs Everton. Right now, every game is important for them because they are tied for 2nd place in the Table. Every win can help them claim the spot.
On offense, Aston Villa is pretty good. They rank 4th for goals scored (2) and 7th for shots on target (5.3) in the league. Ollie Watkins leads this offense and is having himself a year. He has 9 goals and 8 assists on the season so far. Moussa Diaby and John McGinn have each contributed on offense with 4 and 5 goals.
This mid-day game should bring some excitement. In the last 5 games played between these 2 teams, there has been at least 3 total goals. There were 6 goals in each of the last 2 games. Aston Villa has to be itching to score after their last 2 games were scoreless draws.
Will Newcastle be able to hold off Aston Villa’s offense?
Newcastle isn’t having the ideal year sitting in 10th place. They have lost the last 6 out of 7 of their EPL matches and are trying not to lost 5 in a row.
They’re coming in off a win in the FA Cup vs Fulham where they won 2-0. Going into this game, they’ll try to use that momentum to end this 4-game losing streak in the EPL. So far this year they have conceded 32 goals and that is 1 shy of their league total from the 2022-23 season.
After beating the breaks off Aston Villa earlier this year, Newcastle has to expect a revenge match. It’s going to be tough for them to replicate that performance as Aston Villa is having themselves a year.
It’s going to be a tough task for Newcastle, but they could possibly contend. Let’s see where the sportsbooks have some of the lines set and get into some picks.

Aston Villa has proven to be a monster this year and Newcastle isn’t going to stop them. Being at home, I expect Villa to roll these guys and try to secure that 2nd spot in the table.
Look for them to come out early and score. They move the ball well and will want to get ahead right away. Controlling the ball and tempo of the game will be key for them.
Guys like Watkins and Diaby are hard to contain. Aston Villa will continue to lean on them to lead the offense. I like Watkins to score or assist at -125 odds. He will be right in the thick of things and will probably bang one home.
The totals are interesting as well. When you look at the value on the team totals, the sportsbooks lean this game to be 2-1 Aston Villa in the end.
The sportsbooks are giving us a nice number on the moneyline. Getting -110 for a home team is great odds, so we’ll take that any day of the week and twice on Sunday’s.
