A battle at Anfield Stadium between Liverpool and Chelsea. Two teams that play each other well, drawing their last 5 matches. Today’s game will feel a little different with everything that has been going on with Liverpool.
Just recently, Liverpool Head Coach Jurgen Klopp announced that he would be leaving at the end of the season. This was his 9th season with the club.
He won the Premier League in 2019 and the FA Cup and EFL Cup in 2021. To add to his collection of hardware, he won the Onze d’Or Coach of the Year and Premier League Manager of the Season many times.
Another blow to the team has been without Mo Salah. He was representing Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations. They have been knocked out, but Salah suffered a hamstring injury. Salah was sent back to England before they were eliminated. Right now, he is scheduled to return in 2 weeks vs Burnley.
In his absence, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have really stepped up. Nunez had 2 goals in his last Premier League game. Gakpo has 3 goals in his last 3 Premier League games.
Liverpool is 1st in the table with a 14-6-1 record. They’re coming in 6-3-1 in their last 10 matches overall and are 6-2-0 in their last 8 matches in the Premier League.
Chelsea hasn’t had as good of a year, currently sitting 10th in the table with a 9-4-8 record. Despite their record, they are coming in on 3-game winning streak and are 4-0-1 in their last 5 matches.
The Blues have a solid squad. Guys like Christopher Nkunku and Cole Palmer on offense. Nkunku and Malo Gusto are both due back from injuries which will boost them.
Their offense has been fueling this team. Chelsea has been pressing and trying to push their offense on their opponents. Liverpool is a different story though – they are no pushover.
This should be another tough game given their history. Chelsea may even have a slight edge with the Reds missing Salah, but they have also played just fine without him.
Home field advantage is huge in this sport, so Liverpool gets the edge right there. Let’s see what the sportsbooks set the odds at and talk about some picks.

These teams are both going to come out hungry. One who is leading the league and another who is playing well. I’d expect this to be a hard fought, low scoring game,
The most recent match in August of 2023 ended in a 1-1 draw and both goals were scored in the 1st half. The other 4 out of last 5 matches all ended 0-0.
I think we see another draw, but just to be safe we’re going with the half. I think nether team scores in the 1st half, both playing defensive and protecting the ball.
The sportsbooks are giving us nice plus money value on this play, as they should. There is definitely risk with this one, but with the past record – it’s a risk I’m willing to take.
