Wild vs Penguins NHL Predictions & Picks (10/29)
It’s safe to say that things haven’t gone the way that the Penguins planned. After winning three of their first five games to begin the year, the Pens’ losing streak was extended to five consecutive outings with Saturday’s 4-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. They’re now returning to PPG Paints Arena, where they’ve already lost two of their first three home games while being outscored 15-7 on aggregate.
As for the Wild, they’re looking to rebound from a 7-5 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers two days ago. It was a back-and-forth affair, however, two late goals from Philadelphia proved to be too much for Minnesota to come back from.
Having said that, the Wild’s latest loss may have been a fluke. After all, it was only their first regulation loss of the campaign and they were on a four-game winning streak before losing to the Flyers.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Wild have excelled on the road this season, going 4-2 SU across six away matchups. Conversely, they’ve only won one of their last six trips to Pittsburgh.
The Wild have been one of the NHL’s best road teams to begin the 2024-25 season.
Minnesota also has the edge over Pittsburgh in multiple areas on the ice.
For starters, the Wild are scoring the ninth-most goals with the fifth-best power-play percentage in the league. Unsurprisingly, Kirill Kaprizov is leading the charge with 15 points while Matt Boldy (11) and Mats Zuccarello (8) are also playing at point-per-game paces.
The Penguins, meanwhile, are averaging 3.00 goals per game (T-19th) while converting on 20.7% of PP opportunities (T-14th).
Defensively, the Wild are allowing the fifth-fewest goals per game while the Penguins are tied for surrendering the second-most. In order to keep that trend going, Minnesota is starting Marc-Andre Fleury tonight. The future Hall-of-Fame netminder is making his last-ever start against his former team tonight after going 1-0-1 with a .900 save percentage and 2.89 goals-against in his first two appearances this season.
All signs point to the Penguins countering Fleury with Joel Blomqvist. The 22-year-old Finnish goalie has played to mixed results in his first NHL season, going 2-3 with a .911 SV% and 3.34 GAA in five starts thus far.
Wild G Marc-Andre Fleury will face the Penguins for the final time in his NHL career tonight.
Looking to secure the all-important victory for Fleury, I’m going with a Wild win tonight. The Penguins have been awful all across the ice amid their losing streak and I don’t see that changing against a Wild team that has thrived away from home. The added motivation stemming from Fleury’s final trip to Pittsburgh will only further motivate Minnesota to return to the win column.
With that in mind, let’s keep things simple by taking the Wild at -113 moneyline odds before moving on to the top player prop.

Best Wild vs Penguins NHL Player Prop (10/29)
I’m feeling a bit saucy with today’s Wild vs. Penguins player prop pick, so let’s go with Kirill Kaprizov o1.5 points (+118) for my choice.
The dynamic Russian phenom is currently averaging 1.88 points through eight games, putting him on pace for a career-high 154 points if he doesn’t miss any time. While that rate likely isn’t sustainable, it just proves how dangerous Kaprizov is at any given moment. He’s further solidified that fact by recording at least two points in six of his last seven outings — including the last five in a row.
Kaprizov has also tallied at least a point in each of his six career meetings vs. the Penguins, including a two-point effort on Feb. 9, 2024. Considering how Pittsburgh is a bottom-10 team in terms of allowing shots and goals to left wings this season, “Kirill the Thrill” has a great shot at having a productive night.
Best Wild vs. Penguins Player Prop: Kirill Kaprizov o1.5 Points (+118)
