See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Dallas Stars put their four-game winning streak on the line when they face the St. Louis Blues in the first of back-to-back games on Wednesday, April 12. Dallas emerged as the 4-1 victor when it first collided with St. Louis back in November. It now remains to be seen if the first of the final two Blues vs Stars matchups suffers the same result.
The Stars have a ton of momentum on their side following a 6-1 drubbing of the Detroit Red Wings. Although Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson recorded four- and three-point performances, respectively, Joe Pavelski was the star of the show as his third-period goal marked the 1,000th point of his illustrious career.
Meanwhile, the Blues hope to bounce back from a 5-3 loss to the rival Minnesota Wild. Despite Sammy Blais opening the scoring for his team, the Blues allowed Wild to score four answered goals, two of which were shorthanded in a 20-second span.

Stars vs Blues Game Preview
Even though the Blues are eliminated from playoff contention, this isn’t a meaningless matchup for the Stars.
After all, Peter DeBoer’s club currently sits one point back of the Colorado Avalanche for first in the Central Division. With both teams only having two games remaining, the Stars can’t afford to let any points slip through their hands. On the flip side, the Blues will do their best to play spoiler.
Having said that, it’s hard to imagine the Stars being stopped with the role they’re on. They’ve played well on both ends of the ice during their winning streak, outscoring their last four opponents by a total of 16-4. In fact, none of those opponents scored more than a single goal over that stretch.
Fortunately, Dallas has been getting some Vezina Trophy-quality play from Jake Oettinger over the last few weeks. The 24-year-old goaltender has not only won six of his last seven starts but he’s also backstopped his way to a 1.65 goals-against average and .934 save percentage in those contests.
On the other side, the Blues haven’t been getting much reliable goaltending lately. They’ve allowed an average of 4.13 goals over their last eight games, surrendering five-plus on four occasions.
Likely Blues starter Jordan Binnington (per Daily Faceoff) has left a lot to be desired in his recent starts. The polarizing netminder has a 3.55 GAA and .883 SV% in his last 10 starts, finishing with a sub-.900 SV% six times over that run. Furthermore, he’s also lost five of his last seven starts against Dallas.
Now, Binnington must stand on his head if he hopes to keep the Stars’ top players quiet. Jason Robertson has a whopping 33 points in his last 20 games. Joe Pavelski is ignoring Father Time, finding the back of the net 13 times in his previous 18 outings. That’s not even to mention how defenseman Miro Heiskanen has been on fire with 25 assists over his last 19 contests.
The Stars’ special teams united have also been clicking lately. The power play has a 30.6% success rate over the last 10 games while the penalty kill is at 90.5% during that stretch.
For comparison, the Blues have failed to score on each of their last 16 power-play opportunities. Even worse is that their penalty kill has only killed off 51.6% of penalties over the last nine games.
Stars vs Blues Prediction and Picks
Stars vs Blues Prediction: Stars 5, Blues 2
Stars vs Blues: Stars -1.5 (Best Value: +142 at BetOnline) & Joe Pavelski Over 0.5 Goals (Best Value: +182 at BetOnline)
Between their special teams and goaltending situations, I just don’t like the Blues pulling off the upset. The Stars are the superior team while having something meaningful to play for. They’ve also been on fire lately, getting production from the top to the bottom of the lineup.
St. Louis simply won’t be able to keep up as the game goes on. I truly wouldn’t be surprised if Dallas wins this by multiple goals — especially if it can get the PP unit on the ice.
I also recommend taking Pavelski to score over 0.5 goals at +182 odds on BetOnline. Again, he’s been surging, scoring nine goals in his last 11 games alone. He’s only failed to score once in his previous seven outings and now has momentum following his 1,000th point. Ride the hot hand here.
