The Avalanche staved off elimination with a huge 5-3 win over the Stars in Game 5. Dallas had an early lead, but Colorado fought back to live to fight another day as superstar defenseman Cale Makar led the charge with a two-goal effort.
Can Dallas put its latest loss in the rearview to focus on winning tonight? Or does Colorado have what it takes to force a Game 7?

Stars vs Avalanche NHL Game 6 Predictions & Pick (5/17)
After losing three consecutive games, the Avalanche managed to stay alive with a crucial Game 5 victory. They’re now back at Ball Arena where they own a 33-11-1 SU record between the regular season and playoffs, however, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee that victory will be theirs.
For starters, there’s no reason why the Avalanche should take the Stars lightly tonight. Let’s not forget that the latter is already 2-0 at Ball Arena in this series, having outscored the Avs 9-2 on aggregate in Games 3 and 4. Dallas also scored on one of three power-play opportunities during that stretch whereas Colorado went 0-for-5 on the man advantage.
The Stars’ road success isn’t anything new, though. They’re 12-2 SU in their last 14 away games dating back to the regular season, having picked up 10 of those victories by a multi-goal margin. Dallas is clearly comfortable with playing on the road and even leads all 32 clubs with the best away winning percentage this year.
The Stars have cemented themselves as road warriors this season.
The Avalanche also have to worry about what version of Alexandar Georgiev they’re getting tonight. The veteran netminder has struggled to consistently stop the puck throughout the series, playing to a 3.14 goals-against average and .880 save percentage so far, and has yet to steal a game.
Meanwhile, the Stars hope that Jake Oettinger can bounce back after allowing five goals on 27 shots in Game 5. The good news for Dallas is that the 25-year-old played some of his best hockey of the postseason in Games 3 and 4, stopping 52 of 54 shots (.936 SV%) in back-to-back wins in Denver.
Could the Avalanche win tonight? Of course, but that won’t stop me from backing the Stars. Dallas dominated Colorado in the first two road games of this series and I see that trend continuing given how poorly Georgiev has played in this series. If the Stars can get a few goals early on, they should have the win in the bag.
Let’s also take the Under on the 6-goal total. After all, five of the last seven Stars-Avalanche tilts at Ball Arena missed their projected total while finishing with six or fewer goals on each of those occasions.
With the Under being 4-1 in the Avs’ last five home games and 14-6 in the Stars’ last 20 overall outings, we may not see many fireworks tonight.

Best Stars vs Avalanche NHL Game 6 Player Prop (5/17)
Considering how this Stars vs. Avalanche prop has worked in every game in this series, I recommend backing Jason Robertson to record 1+ assists (+100) tonight.
Although he’s yet to score in this series, Robertson has excelled at setting up his teammates. The 24-year-old forward has tallied at least one assist through each of the series’ first five games, racking up a total of seven helpers. He’s even recorded exactly two assists in back-to-back games, giving him even more momentum as far as this prop bet is concerned.
With eight assists on seven career trips to Ball Arena, I can’t help but love this Robertson prop tonight.
