The National Hockey League has a 10-game schedule lined up for Washington’s Birthday, including a showdown between the Detroit Red Wings (28-20-6) and Seattle Kraken (23-21-10) on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. ET.

The Red Wings’ road trip continues following Saturday’s 5-0 win over the Calgary Flames that saw James Reimer stop each of the 38 shots he faced. Meanwhile, the Kraken hope to extend their winning streak to three games after notching a 4-1 victory against the Boston Bruins in their latest outing.
When it comes to making the 2023-24 NHL playoffs, both clubs have work to do. BetOnline currently favored that Detroit won’t make the playoffs at -120 odds while also projecting Seattle to miss the postseason at -500.
Time will tell who improves their playoff odds with a win this afternoon. In the meantime, let’s get into my Red Wings vs. Kraken predictions and best bets today.

Red Wings vs Kraken Prediction & Pick (2/19): Can Detroit Get Revenge?
Based on how these clubs have been, it’s no surprise that both of them could use a win this afternoon.
The Red Wings’ four-game road trip hasn’t exactly gone as planned. The voyage opened up with back-to-back 8-4 and 4-1 losses to the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers, respectively, before Saturday’s win against the Flames. They’re now 1-3 SU in their last four road games and 2-5 SU in their last seven games played in February.
Meanwhile, victories have been rare for the Kraken lately, going 4-8 SU in their last 12 games, losing six times by multi-goal margins. The good news, though, is that Seattle is back at Climate Pledge Arena where Dave Hakstol’s team is 5-2 SU across the last seven home games, outscoring those opponents 23-13 on aggregate.
The Kraken also bested the Red Wings when they collided back in October, leaving Little Caesars Arena with the 5-4 victory after Jordan Eberle scored the overtime game-winning goal.
Veteran forward Jordan Eberle scored the GWG when the Kraken and Red Wings last met on Oct. 24, 2023.
The Kraken have done nothing but dominate the Red Wings ever since joining the NHL. Seattle and Detroit have collided five times over the years, resulting in four victories for the former. In fact, the Red Wings haven’t beaten the Kraken since their inaugural meeting in December 2021, allowing at least four goals in each of the subsequent losses.
Daily Faceoff has already confirmed that Alex Lyon is starting for Detroit this afternoon, so we’ll see if he can help buck that trend. The 31-year-old netminder has been inconsistent lately, going 4-4-1 with a 3.30 goals-against average, .890 save percentage, and a shutout in his last nine starts.
Having said that, Lyon did finish three of his last four appearances with a sub-.900 SV%.
Meanwhile, Joey D’Accord has been great for Seattle even though he only has three wins in his last seven starts. He owns a 2.26 GAA and .926 SV% during that stretch, which includes save percentages of .919 or better in each of his last five games.
The Red Wings do have the specials teams advantage, though, entering today’s contest No. 11th on the power play and seventh on the penalty kill. On the flip side, the Kraken own the No. 16th-ranked PP and No. 21 PK.
Will the Red Wings’ superior PP and PK units lead to an upset win in Seattle today?
At the end of the day, I see the Kraken picking up the home win. They’ve been playing extremely well at Climate Pledge Arena lately and have momentum on their side with four straight wins over the Red Wings. It’s also tough trusting Detroit given how inconsistent Lyon has been between the pipes — especially with the Red Wings’ history of getting lit up by Seattle.
Speaking of which, I’ll take the Kraken winning outright as the best bet here. Again, they haven’t lost to the Red Wings in nearly three years and have already beaten them once this season. Considering how Detroit’s road trip has gone thus far, Seattle coming out on top is a likely scenario.

Best Red Wings vs Kraken NHL Player Prop (2/19)
There are some solid Red Wings vs. Kraken player props out there and one that I like is the Over on Jared McCann’s 0.5-point total.
McCann has been one of the Kraken’s best players throughout the season and is playing some of his best hockey at the moment. The former 2014 first-rounder has racked up 17 points in his last 14 games, finishing with at least one point in 12 of those games. That’s without mentioning how he’s entering today’s game on a four-game point streak.
Additionally, McCann has at least one point in each of his last four meetings with the Red Wings, tallying a total of three goals and four assists. If that’s not convincing enough to back this prop, I don’t know what would be.
Best Red Wings vs Kraken Prop Bet: Jared McCann o0.5 Total Points (-124)
