Rangers vs Predators NHL Predictions & Picks (12/17)
It’s no secret that neither side has done much winning lately, however, that will change for one team tonight.
The Rangers have been in free-fall mode lately, going an abysmal 3-10 SU across their last 13 games. They opened up their three-game road trip with Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues, marking the third time in the last four games that the Rangers were held to two or fewer goals. The loss was another example of the team’s season-long road struggles as New York is now 1-5 SU in its last six away contests.
As for the Predators, things aren’t much better for them. Nashville heads into tonight’s matchup having dropped nine of its last 10 outings, most recently a 5-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.
On one hand, you would think that the Predators playing at home tonight would give them an edge. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case given that the Preds are 1-4 SU in their last five home games against the Rangers, having been outscored 14-10 SU on aggregate along the way.
The Rangers have had a ton of recent success against the Predators in Nashville since December 2018.
Even though the odds favor Nashville, it’s hard to have a ton of faith in the home team. The Predators just aren’t score much lately, tallying just 10 goals in their last five games. Although the Rangers haven’t been generating a ton of offense, either, they’re still averaging a respectable 3.07 goals per game this season (T-15th). They also scored four goals on their last trip to Nashville back in December 2023.
The Rangers also have the power-play advantage, operating with a 21.8% success rate (14th) compared to the Predators’ 18.0 PP% (25th). In fact, Nashville’s special teams situation has become even more dire lately as the team is only 1-of-23 (4.3%) on the man advantage in its last 10 outings.
The Predators will try to change their PP luck against Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who’s 2-7-0 with a .900 save percentage in his last nine starts. Having said that, he’s played to a .935 SV% or better in two of his last three starts, indicating that he might finally be turning the page.
Meanwhile, Predators G Juuse Saros is gunning for his first victory since Nov. 23. The veteran Finnish netminder has since gone 0-4-3 in the seven subsequent starts, tallying a 3.15 goals-against average and .888 SV% along the way. Interestingly enough, Saros is 4-4-1 with a .935 SV%, 1.94 GAA, and one shutout in 10 career meetings with the Rangers.
Predators G Juuse Saros has played well against the Rangers throughout his NHL career.
Don’t be fooled by the odds: the Rangers will win this game. Although neither side has impressed much lately, the Rangers have been the better team all season long and know how to win at Bridgestone Arena. The Predators, meanwhile, simply aren’t scoring much and their PP play has been putrid at best. After already losing to New York this season, I don’t see Nashville faring any better tonight.
With being said, take the Rangers on the moneyline this evening.

Best Rangers vs Predators NHL Player Prop (12/17)
If you’re looking to add a Rangers vs. Predators prop bet to your NHL betting slip, I suggest adding Mika Zibanejad o2.5 shots on goal (+100 on SportsBetting).
Zibanejad hasn’t been scoring much in recent weeks, however, he’s still done a decent job as far as this prop is concerned. The Swedish center is averaging 3.1 SOG across his last eight contests, finishing with the Over on this prop five times during that stretch — which includes averaging 3.5 SOG in two away outings.
The good news for Zibanejad is that the Predators struggle to defend the middle of the ice, allowing the sixth-most SOG to centers this season. He’s had previous success against Nashville, averaging 4.0 SOG while the Over went 6-1 in the last seven meetings.
In other words, expect business as usual for Zibanejad.
