The Hurricanes cut the Rangers’ lead down to 3-2 with a massive 4-1 victory in Game 5. Carolina scored four unanswered third-period goals to snag the win as Frederik Andersen stopped 20 of the 21 shots sent his way.
Can New York finally advance tonight? Or will Carolina find a way to force a pivotal Game 7?

Rangers vs Hurricanes NHL Game 6 Predictions & Pick (5/16)
Hope appeared to be gone for the Hurricanes as they fell into a 3-0 hole to begin this second-round series. Fast forward to today and Carolina is only one win away from tying things up and forcing a Game 7, proving that anything is possible in the NHL postseason.
The Hurricanes did a tremendous job at limiting the Rangers’ offensive opportunities in Game 5, holding the latter to just 21 shots on goal. Carolina’s strong defensive play also forced New York to cough up the puck eight times, six more than the former.
Another reason why the Hurricanes have won back-to-back games is because they’re winning the special teams battle. The Rangers are 0-for-4 on the power play in these last two games compared to being 4-for-13 (30.8%) in Games 1 through 3.
Meanwhile, Carolina is 1-for-5 on the man advantage in its back-to-back victories.
Do the Hurricanes have it in them to complete the comeback?
Playing at PNC Arena should provide the Hurricanes with a boost since they’re 6-1 SU in their last seven home games. At the same time, the Rangers are 8-2 SU across their last 10 road tilts and have won five on five of their last six trips to Raleigh.
If the Hurricanes want to buck that trend, Andersen must have another strong showing like he did in Game 5. It was also the first time in this series that the Swedish netminder had a save percentage that was above .900.
As for Igor Shesterkin, the Rangers goalie appears to have come back down to earth after allowing seven goals on 58 shots (.879 SV%) in the last two games. He is 3-1-0 with a 1.76 goals-against average and .949 SV% in his last four road games against the Canes, though, leaving time to tell if he can return to that form tonight.
While the Rangers are capable of winning tonight, I’m taking the Hurricanes to even the series. It seems like things are destined to go seven games at this point and I can see Carolina tying things up in front of a raucous PNC Arena crowd.
The first five games of this series have seen an average of 6.2 goals scored, so let’s take the Over on the six-goal total.

Best Rangers vs Hurricanes NHL Game 6 Player Prop (5/16)
When it comes to my Rangers vs. Hurricanes Game 6 player prop pick, I’ll take Brady Skjei to record over 0.5 points (+114).
Skjei has been having a solid postseason run, tallying nine points through 10 games. He’s finished five of his last six games with at least one point and has recorded at least a goal or an assist in each of his last four outings.
With seven points in his last seven games against the Rangers, it’s clear that you can’t go wrong with this Skjei.
