The Rangers took the convincing 2-0 series lead with a 4-3 double-overtime win over the Hurricanes in Game 2. Vincent Trocheck eventually scored on the power play for his fifth goal of the postseason to win the game for New York in the second extra frame.
Will New York push its foe to the brink of elimination with another win? Or will Carolina find a way to cut the series deficit in half?

Rangers vs Hurricanes NHL Game 3 Predictions & Pick (5/9)
It’s do-or-die for the Hurricanes, who can’t afford to fall behind 3-0 in this series. While a loss tonight won’t eliminate them, it’s tough to imagine any team winning four straight games against this year’s Rangers.
The good news for the Hurricanes is that they’re returning to PNC Arena where they’ve won five games in a row. All five of those wins came by multi-goal deficits as Carolina outscored its opponents 21-9 on aggregate while going 6-for-17 (35.3%) on the power play.
The bad news for the home team is that the visitors have been performing well on the road. After all, the Rangers are winners of seven of their last eight road games, which includes a 2-0 SU record in the playoffs thus far. They’ve also found special teams success in those eight outings, playing to 47.6% power play and 87.5% penalty kill percentages.
That’s without mentioning how the Rangers have thrived at PNC Arena, winning four straight trips to Raleigh. New York absolutely destroyed Carolina in those games, outscoring the latter 16-8 while holding the Hurricanes to two or fewer goals each time.
If the Hurricanes want to regain some momentum, they must find a way to solve Rangers netminder Igor Shesterkin. After his 54-save performance in Game 2, the Russian puck-stopper is now 5-1-0 with a 2.18 goals-against average, .928 save percentage, and one shutout in his last six clashes with Carolina.
Additionally, Shesterkin has only allowed three total goals on his last trio of outings to PNC Arena.
The Hurricanes would also appreciate if Frederik Andersen could finally steal a game. While he was fantastic during the regular season, Andersen has come unglued in the playoffs, playing to an uninspiring .884 SV% in his last six outings. In fact, he’s finished with a sub-.900 SV% in each of his last three starts while allowing at least three goals each time.
Igor Shesterkin has outplayed Frederik Andersen so far in this series.
The Rangers are in control of this series, but I think the Hurricanes finally win tonight. Carolina has played well at home lately and will be desperate to get its first win of the series. I can’t see the Hurricanes getting swept, so look for them to rely on solid defense and a potential bounce-back showing from Andersen to cut the series deficit in half.
Having said that, we’ll be grabbing the Over on the 5.5-goal total. The Over is 10-4 in the Rangers’ last 14 divisional matchups and 13-7 in the Hurricanes’ last 20 games against a Metropolitan team. The Over is also 6-4 in the last 10 New York-Carolina tilts, which includes a combined seven goals in each of the series’ first two games.
In other words, brace for more offense than expected.

Best Rangers vs Hurricanes NHL Game 3 Player Prop (5/9)
With a plethora of Rangers vs. Hurricanes Game 3 props on the board, I’m rolling with Mika Zibanejad to record 1+ assists (-114).
Zibanejad hasn’t always been known for his playmaking, but he’s been setting up his teammates like no tomorrow lately. The Swedish forward heads into tonight’s clash on a 12-game assist streak, having racked up a total of 14 helpers throughout that stretch. That’s without mentioning how he has five assists in his last four road games against the Hurricanes.
As one of the straws that stir the drink for the Rangers, look for Zibanejad to tally another assist tonight.
