Race for the Last Wild Card Spot
This game tonight is critical for the Western Conference Playoffs, and so is the Jets matchup at home against the San Jose Sharks. The Jets currently hold the tie breaker over both the Predators and the Flames, therefore either of those teams would need to pass Winnipeg in total points to secure their spot.
A single point from the Jets, meaning simply forcing overtime, would eliminate either the Flames or the Predators if one of them were to lose in regulation and gain 0 points. Naturally, a Jets victory will eliminate the loser of this game, whether or not it reaches overtime.
The Jets cannot clinch a spot tonight because either the Flames or the Predators are guaranteed to walk away with 2 points, however, if the Jets were to lose in regulation, all three teams would still be in contention.
The Jets play the Sharks in Winnipeg and are currently -330 favorites on BetOnline. Although nothing is guaranteed, one can assume the Jets win that game, thus making the Predators vs. Flames matchup much more meaningful.

Predators vs. Flames Picks and Props
We discussed the possible scenarios above, now let’s dive into what actually happens on the ice tonight. Personally, I think the Jets roll. They control their own destiny, and I think they make it into the playoffs.
If that happens, the loser of this game is eliminated from playoff contention. Both teams should come out expecting a Jets win and should be playing like their season depends on it, because it does.
Both games have gone under this low total, but I’m turning my focus elsewhere with that tid bit of information. Here’s where my head’s at with this game.
Predators 1P ML (+143) Caesar’s
The Predators have come out firing both games against the Flames this season. They’ve ended up winning both of the games outright as well. The Preds went into the first intermission up 1-0 and up 2-0 in the previous games. In those two 1st Periods, they’ve outshot the Flames 12-3 and 12-9.
Despite their injuries, I like the Predators to net one or two in the 1st period and then sit back for the rest of the game. I’m not confident enough in them to get this done for the full game but I think we might get lucky in the 1st.
Risking 0.75u to win 1.07u.
Juuse Saros over Saves
Now, at the time of writing, I cannot find this man’s saves prop anywhere on the betting board. However, there is confirmation that he gets the nod tonight.
Juuse Saros played against the Flames on January 16th and stopped 38 of 39 shots. In his last two games, he has saved 36/38 shot attempts and all 33 shot attempts in a 3-0 shutout win against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Flames, like the Predators, will be in desperation mode, and should be ripping shots at Saros. Last time in front of their home crowd, the Flames lost 2-1 against the sorry Chicago Blackhawks. I expect them to play with some extra fire knowing their season is on the line.
Saros leads the league with 44.8 Goals Saved Above Expected, and has been great down the stretch. In his last nine starts, Saros has saved 276 of 298 shots, boasting a 92.6 Save Percentage. That stretch includes saving 43/45 in a shutout loss at Pittsburgh, saving 35/36 in a 2-1 victory on the road against the Bruins, and saving 27/28 in a 2-1 win against the Kraken.
The Flames generated 39 shots against the Predators in Nashville last game. With tonight’s implications, I expect them to fire on net plenty, allowing Saros to give us plenty of saves.
I will be playing this over to about 32.5 saves assuming it is not too juiced. I think he could get 35 given the Flames nature to shoot more at home.
Now, we wait for the lines to drop.
