It’s a light NHL schedule tonight with only three games lined up for Wednesday, Feb. 14. The Valentine’s Day slate does feature one national broadcast, though, as the Florida Panthers (33-15-4) prepare to face the Pittsburgh Penguins (23-19-7) at 7:30 p.m. ET on TNT.

The Panthers are flying at the moment, improving to 6-1 SU in their last seven games with a 4-0 shutout victory against the Colorado Avalanche over the weekend. Meanwhile, the Penguins lost for the fifth time in their past seven outings on Saturday, falling 2-1 to the Winnipeg Jets on the road.
When it comes to chasing a championship this season, oddsmakers view one club in a much better light than the other. While Florida is tied for the fourth-best 2023-24 Stanley Cup odds (+1000), Pittsburgh is much further down the list at 14th (+2800), according to BetOnline’s futures markets.
With a night full of betting opportunities on our hands, let’s check out my Panthers vs. Penguins prediction and best bets.

Panthers vs Penguins Prediction & Pick (2/14): Can Pittsburgh Stop Florida’s Run?
Tonight marks the third and final Panthers-Penguins game of the 2023-24 NHL season. The first two contests were close, but the Panthers got the last laugh in each one, winning 3-1 on Dec. 8 before picking up a 3-2 shootout victory on Jan. 26.
Based on how they’ve been playing lately, the Panthers have a real chance to complete the sweep. As mentioned before, Florida is 6-1 SU in its last seven games, outscoring those opponents 24-11 on aggregate. Matthew Tkachuk leads the way with 13 points during that stretch while Sam Reinhart paces his teammates with six goals.
Meanwhile, the Penguins have barely been scraping by. They’ve lost five of their last seven games mostly due to a lack of offense, being held to two or fewer regulation goals in all but one of those outings. It doesn’t help that Pittsburgh’s power play is 4-for-26 (15.4%) during this skid.
On the flip side, the Penguins are allowing an average of 2.57 goals over the last seven games, showing how close some of those losses have been.
The Penguins need their best players to start scoring more goals if they want to reverse their fortunes.
The Penguins have also been struggling to stop opposing power plays lately, only killing 15 of the last 20 penalties (75.0%). Meanwhile, the Panthers are a mind-blowing 10-for-24 (41.7%) on the man advantage and 23-for-26 (88.5%) on the penalty kill over their last seven outings.
It’ll be interesting to see if playing at PPG Paints Arena gives Pittsburgh any sort of advantage. Although the Penguins are a one-sided 16-4 SU in their last 20 home games against the Panthers, three of those losses came in the last five meetings at PPG Paints Arena — including the aforementioned 3-2 shootout loss this season.
The Pens will have a better shot at winning if Tristan Jarry continues to stand on his head. Pittsburgh’s starting netminder (confirmed via Daily Faceoff) has been one of the few bright spots lately, playing to a .930 save percentage and 1.83 goals-against average with two shutout wins in his last six starts.
Having said that, the Panthers’ Sergei Bobrovsky has also played extremely well in 2024, playing to a 5-1-1 record with a 2.36 GAA and .920 SV%. He also stopped all 34 shots he faced in his latest outing.
Panthers G Sergei Bobrovsky has been phenomenal lately.
The Penguins might have the home-ice advantage, but I’m taking the Panthers to win tonight. Florida has been white-hot lately and has the clear-cut special teams edge heading into tonight’s contest. Pittsburgh will put up a fight, but Florida’s momentum will pay off as the visitors emerge victorious.
With that in mind, it’s best to take the Under on the 6-goal total. These clubs just aren’t involved in high-scoring affairs all that often. After all, the Under is 32-18-2 for the Panthers this season while being 30-17-2 in the Penguins’ games thus far.
Not only is the Under also 4-1 in the last five meetings between these clubs, but Florida and Pittsburgh have combined for five or fewer goals in each of their last three meetings.
With Jarry and Bobrovsky playing terrifically between the pipes, let’s predict a low-scoring game tonight.

Best Panthers vs Penguins NHL Player Prop (2/14)
There are several solid Panthers vs. Penguins player props out there, but my favorite is for Carter Verhaeghe to record at least one assist.
Verhaeghe has been a terrific playmaker this season, tallying 27 assists through 52 games. Assuming he continues at that pace, he’s projected to finish with a career-high 43 assists.
The 28-year-old’s playmaking prowess has only gotten better recently, highlighted by his having 15 assists in his last 18 games. He’s finished with at least one helper in 13 of those contests, giving him a 72.2% success rate during that span.
With at least one assist in five of his last seven encounters with the Penguins, I fully expect Verhaeghe to set someone up for a goal tonight.
Best Panthers vs Penguins Prop Bet: Carter Verhaeghe at least 1 assist (+125)
