Tonight, the hottest team in hockey takes the ice. The red-hot New York Rangers (37-16-3) will take on the New Jersey Devils (28-23-4) at the Prudential Center. Both teams are playing the 2nd game of a back-to-back.
New York comes in on an 8-game winning streak and are hot as the sun. They’re 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and have yet to lose since the return from the All-Star break.
The Rangers are averaging 4.5 goals per game in their last 5 games. Their season average is 3.34 which ranks 10th in the league. This team is heavy offensively – they shoot well and convert on the power play.
On the road this season, the Rangers are 17-9-3 and are 8-4 in divisional matchups. Sitting 1st in the Metro, they’ll look to continue that success vs another divisional opponent.
Artemi Panarin is day to day with a lower body injury, so we’ll have to wait for an update on him. Chris Kreider and Vincent Trocheck have both been playing well to help step up.
Goalie Igor Shesterkin is expected to be in net. He has a 23-12-1 record with a 2.79 GAA and .904 save percentage. Shesterkin has faced 40+ shots in the last 2 games, so he’ll be looking for some defensive help vs this Devils offense.
New Jersey is coming off a bad loss last night to the Capitals. The Devils are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games, including their loss to Philly in the Stadium Series game.
They are sitting 4th in the Metro Division and have a 9-6-2 divisional record this season. New Jersey is 13-13-2 at home, so they haven’t played the best.
The Devils offense is a powerhouse though. They rank in the top 10 in the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. Their shooting percentage ranks 11th as well at 10.5%.
Backup Nico Daws is expected to get the start. Daws has a 6-7-0 record with a 3.18 GAA and .903 save percentage. Goaltending has been a big issue this season with Vitek Vanecek has been out with a lower body injury.
The Devils lack of defense hasn’t helped their goalie situation either. They rank 26th in goals allowed and 18th in shots on goal per game while ranking 20th in penalty kill.
Tightening up the defense will be the Devils key to beating the Rangers. Can they do it? Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

I really like the Rangers in this spot. I know they have to come back down to Earth, but at plus chicky? Yes, please.
Right now, they are just absolutely buzzing, and this game is a perfect one to keep it going. They’re played plenty at the Prudential Center and will have plenty of fans in the stands.
The Devils are struggling right now, so the Rangers will want to get out to an early lead. The earlier the Rangers rattle the goalie the better.
I expect Panarin to play in this game. In the last game they played against each other in November, he had 2 goals and 9 shots on goal. If he plays, we’ll be laddering his shots and taking him to score a goal.
I hate to do and say it but let’s go Rangers.
