We head to UBS Arena for Game 3 of the Carolina Hurricanes vs the New York Islanders. The Hurricanes just made a crazy comeback in the 3rd period of Game 2 to win the game.
The Islanders were up 3-1 heading into the 3rd period on Monday night and completely shut down. They gave up the lead and proceeded to lose the game 5-3. Playing the full 60 minutes has really been a weak point for the Isles this year.
Stealing a game in Carolina would’ve been huge for the Islanders. They completely controlled the first 2 periods of Game 2 before giving the game away. Protecting home ice is going to now be crucial.
Goalie Semyon Varlamov started both games 1 and 2. He kept the Islanders in Game 1 much than Game 2. The defense also didn’t step up in Game 2 to help him out either.
It has been confirmed that the Islanders will make a goalie change and start Iyla Sorokin. Sorokin didn’t have the best year and the Islanders were riding the hot hand with Varly, but the time has come. He is supposed to be the star goalie and now is his time to shine.
Will Carolina continue their momentum, or will New York find a way to win?
Carolina looked slow in the beginning of Game 2, but obviously changed that. Otherwise, they have looked very comfortable this series. The Islanders need to change that.
New York played decent at home this year and home ice should definitely give them a boost. UBS Arena should be the loudest it has ever been tonight. They need it to be.
The Hurricanes will look to keep it going. Goalie Freddy Andersen will get the start in net as he should. He has been hot ever since returning from injury in the regular season.
Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

I think we see a very similar game to the 1st game of this series. It’s going to be in a different barn with different fans and one team is starting a different goalie.
Both teams will be making adjustments for the change of location, but the Hurricanes will also have to adjust for Sorokin. He is going to be on the top of his game coming off rest and will pose a threat.
Assuming we see the same kind of game as Game 1, this game should be very calculated and slow. I think we see a 2-1 or 3-1 final score as well.
The Islanders will need to play solid defense to stay in this game. Finding ways to score will come, but if they don’t play good defense then they’ll never have a chance.
Take Sorokin for over his saves. This Carolina team just put up 38 shots last game and are going to look to continue that.
