In their 2nd showdown of the season, the New York Islanders (17-10-10) will take on the Arizona Coyotes (19-15-2). The Islanders won the 1st game back in October by a score of 1-0.
New York comes into this game on a 2-game losing streak. They almost pulled out a win the other night vs the Avalanche, but unfortunately lost in OT. It was the 10th time the Islanders lost in overtime this season and that leads the league.
This will be the 3rd game of the Isles 4 game road trip and they’ll be looking to get the 1st win of the trip. On the road, New York is 7-6-4, so they play better at home. In their last 10 games, they are 4-3-3, so they need to turn that around. This should be a good game for them to bounce back.
The Islanders have played better defense this year than they have in recent years, but their defense is now their problem. If you’ve peeped the scribbles before, you know the deal here. The Islanders bleed the most shots in the league per game with 35.5 allowed.
Back to their offense quick, their biggest improvement has been their power play. They used to rank in the bottom of the league for power play conversion but are ranked 1oth this year with a 23.3.% conversion rate. Moving the puck around has been a huge part of the Isles success as well, having 4 guys with 32+ assists.
Goaltending has been a rough spot for the Islanders. Their defense hasn’t properly supported Sorokin, who is an all-star goalie, but doesn’t look like it. He has a record of 11-6-8 but has a 3.19 GAA and .910 save percentage. He is expected to get the start tonight.
Arizona has been a sneaky surprise this season. They currently sit 5th in the Pacific Division and would be in the 2nd Wild Card spot if the season were to end today. This team is good at home with a 12-6-0 record and a scrappy team who wants to show they can hang with the rest of the boys.
On offense, the team ranks 19th in goals per game with 3.03. The Yotes do shoot very well with an 11.2% shoot percentage, which is 5th best in the league. Also, they rank 11th in the league for power play conversion at a 22.9% rate.
Clayton Keller leads the team with 31 points but has a solid cast behind him. There are 3 other players with double digit goals scored and 7 other players with double digit assists. It really shows how this team is gelling when you see everyone contributing.
Connor Ingram has really stepped up in goal. He has a record of 13-7-0 with a sub 2.50 GAA and a .919 save percentage. Ingram also has 4 shutouts to go along with that., which is tied for most in the league. He is expected to be between the pipes for this game.

New York Islanders vs Arizona Coyotes Prediction and Picks
Prediction and Pick: New York Islanders Moneyline (-110) Get 50% up to $750 Deposit on BETUS for this pick
The 1st matchup between these 2 teams was very early in the season. I think we see 2 different teams who are both hungry and a good game for that matter.
New York really needs a win here in their tight division. They seem to get the idea that every point counts with the amount of OTL’s they have, but I digress.
Look for the Islanders to continue to not commit a lot of penalties and capitalize on their power play chances. Arizona ranks in the bottom of the league for penalties committed per game.
This is also a very close matchup on paper, but I feel the Islanders have the edge. The Yotes may be good at home, but the Islanders are scrappy themselves. I expect the Isles offense to come out hot from the start and get an early lead.
Line makes no sense to me. Isles should be more like -140, so we will gladly take the -110 on the moneyline. I know it’s a homer pick, but whatever pays!
