Winnipeg has started off extremely well and no one expected. They travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins. These 2 teams met once this season already and the Jets won 6-3.
The Jets are the best team in the league with a 16-3-0 record. They’re 1st in the Central Division and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Winnipeg is coming into this game off a win over the Panthers on Tuesday.
This team is an offensive powerhouse, averaging 4.21 goals and 30.5 shots on goal per game. They have the best power play in the league with a 35.7% conversion rate. Winnipeg also makes the most of their shots with a 13.8% shooting percentage which is 2nd best in the league.
Their defense isn’t the best but also isn’t the worse. Winnipeg allows 29.2 shots on goal per game, but only allows 2.42 goals per game. That is thanks to their top-notch goaltending.
Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck is expected in net. He has been nothing short of remarkable so far with a 13-2 record. His GAA is 2.20 and he has a .923 save percentage. Homie is dialed to say the least.
Pittsburgh needs to turn it around, but not sure this will be the game
It’s been a rough start to the year for the Penguins. They’re 7-10-4 so far and are 7th in the Metro Division. Pittsburgh is 4-3-3 in their last 10 games and are coming off an overtime loss to the Lightning on Tuesday night.
The Penguins so far play better at home than on the road with a 4-4-2 record vs a 3-6-2 record on the road. Despite that, they’re going to have their work cut out for them. A big problem they’re having this season is finding the back of the net. Pittsburgh ranks in the bottom of the league for goals scored per game with 2.67.
They do shoot the puck a lot, but not very well. The Penguins rank 7th in the league for shots on goal per game, but 28th for shooting percentage, shooting only 8.7%. Their power play is decent, ranking 15th in the league with a 19.6% conversion rate.
Defensively, this team is terrible. They rank last in the league for goals allowed, averaging 3.86 per game. Pittsburgh is also 30th in the league for shots on goal allowed per game, so they’re extremely leaky. Hard to keep leads when you play this way.
In goal, Alex Nedeljkovic is expected to start. He is 3-3-3 this season with a 3.17 GAA and a .886 save percentage. Nedeljkovic better be prepared to see at least 30+ shots in this game. Let’s get into the odds and check out the picks.

I know it’s going with the obvious, but it’s hard not to back the Jets here and by plenty. They’re playing fantastic hockey and are going into a arena where home ice isn’t protected well. Winnipeg is 7-2-0 on the road this season, so they’re comfortable no matter where they play.
Connor Hellebuyck is going to be the difference maker here. The Penguins already have trouble scoring the puck and are now about to go up against the best goalie in the league. Hellebuyck should be lights out in this game and sprinkling the shutout is definitely a possibility.
On the other side of the ice, I like Nedeljkovic to get over his saves line. The line should come out around 28-29 saves. I expect him to get absolutely lit up with how weak the Pittsburgh defense is, and he should see 35+ shots.
In the last game they played, Kyle Connor went off for a goal and 4 shots on goal. I like for him to have another big game vs the Pens after coming off a 2-goal game. He should get his 4 shots again and I will be sprinkling his anytime goal which should be around +120.
