Two of the biggest spotlight teams of the year face off tonight. We have the defending Stanley Cup Champion Vegas Golden Knights (5-0-1) taking on the Chicago Blackhawks (2-3-0) in their home opener.
It is a much-anticipated home opener as this is the first game for Rookie Star Connor Bedard. The #1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft will be welcomed with open arms tonight. Bedard has been compared to the likes of Sidney Crosby and Conor McDavid. The Blackhawks were given a tough start with 5 road games to start the season.
In 5 games, Bedard has amassed 1 goal and 2 assists with a +/- of -2. If you’re not familiar with him, he’s a little guy compared to most in the league, standing at only 5’ 10”. Although he’s small, the kid is fast and has a wicked wrist shot that we have seen. The way he bends that stick back, he can rip it high and fast.
Chicago made some nice pickups in the offseason to surround Bedard. This team is in a complete rebuild stage as it is, so veteran leadership was the best move in my opinion to better the team. The Kane and Toews era has sadly come to an end.
Taylor Hall comes in from Boston after two and half years in Boston. The former Hart Trophy winner brings experience to the table. He is coming off a 36-point season in 61 games but did have 61 points in 81 games the year prior.
Corey Perry signed with the team after 2 seasons with the Lightning. He brings a lot of playoff experience to the table. Since 2012, he has only not played in the playoffs once (2018-19). Nick Foligno was another good signing for the team.
Vegas Golden Knights off to a Hot start so far!
After winning the Stanley Cup, the Knights brought back just about the same team. They did say farewell to Reilly Smith who played a large part in the offense, but nothing they can’t replace.
Vegas has won their first 5 games to start this season and they’re putting pucks in the back of the net. They have scored 4+ goals in 4 out of their 5 games. Vegas already has 5 players with 5+ points as well.
Captain Mark Stone leads the team in assists with 5. Star Jack Eichel leads the team in goals with 3 and Chandler Stephenson leads the team with 6 points. Jonathan Marchessault has scored 2 goals so far and has hit his shots in 4 out of 5 games.
They’ve shown they haven’t missed a beat since last season. Looking like a favorite to win it all, they will look to continue this hot streak against the weak Blackhawk team.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Chicago Blackhawks Prediction and Picks
Prediction and Pick: Vegas Golden Knights -1.5 (+112)
We saw how the Blackhawks played against a powerhouse in the Avalanche the other night. They now have another powerhouse in front of them and will need to play much better this time.
On paper and just knowing these teams, the Knights are the much better team all around. They extremely hot and finding the back of the net a lot, which I don’t think the Blackhawks have an answer for.
Expect the Knights to score multiple goals this game. They should cover this puck line without a problem, so we’ll take the plus chicky.
Player Prop: Connor Bedard 5+ shots on goal (+128)
I know he’s still the kid and brand new, but he’s shown us he can shoot. He’s also shown us that he’s not afraid to shoot, totaling 20 shots on goal in 5 games.
Bedard has hit this line in 3 out of his 5 games. He is coming off a game with no shots on goal, so we look for him to correct that. This is also the home opener and I think he’s going to want to show out for the home crowd.
Totally get that 5 shots is a lot, but I think we see a big night from him. The Knights will do whatever they can to contain him, but powerplay chances will be huge for us to hit the number.
