A showdown in the Western Conference tonight as the Minnesota Wild (26-24-6) take on the Edmonton Oilers (33-18-2). In their last matchup, the Oilers won 4-3 back in December.
The Oilers almost broke the NHL record for longest winning streak but fell short. Regardless, they have been playing great hockey. They are 3rd in the Pacific Division and are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games.
Connor McDavid has 25 points in his last 10 games with 4 goals and a ridiculous 21 assists. He is really putting the team on his back per usual. Once he starts coming around, guys like Draisaitl and Hyman start to get hot as well.
Edmonton’s offense is deadly with these guys. They rank in the top 5 for goals scored per game, shots on goal per game and a 26.3% power play conversion rate.
On defense, they aren’t bad at all. They rank 12th in the league for goals allowed and 5th for shots on goal allowed per game. Not too shabby for a mainly offensive driven team.
In goal, Stuart Skinner has been having himself a year. He has a record of 25-12-2 with a 2.66 GAA and a .903 save percentage. He is expected to get the start in net tonight.

Minnesota has been having a tough year. They rank 6th in the Central Division but are only 4 points out of a Wild Card spot.
The Wild are coming off a loss to the Jets, but the game before they went bonkers. Against the Canucks on Monday nights, Minnesota put up 10 goals. That’s right – a touchdown and a field goal.
In their last 10 games, the Wild are 6-3-1, but are 12-13-2 on the road. They will have their work cut out for them in Rogers Place as the Oilers have a 17-6-2 record at home.
On offense, Minnesota’s offense has not been what it was last year. They have underwhelming stats, ranking in the middle of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game.
It’s not much better for them on defense. The Wild rank towards the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed.
Goalie Filip Gustavsson is expected in next tonight. He has a 15-13-3 record with a 3.27 GAA and a .894 save percentage. Minnesota’s going to have to help him out with some defense against this Edmonton offense.

We should see the goal horn go off a lot tonight. With the goaltending expected, both goalies can be leaky. Gustavsson has a 3+ GAA alone and Skinner has his moments.
The Oilers are going to pour the offense on. With the amount they’ve been scoring as of late that they could break they over on their own! They’re averaging over 5 goals per game in their last 5 games.
Minnesota still put up 3 goals last game following the 10-goal game. I think they’ll be able to find the net a few times tonight to help break the total.
Even though it’s a little juicy, we’re going to pay it. I think we have a sweat free on our hands tonight and will cash this ticket with ease! For a nugget – McDavid is -115 for 2+ points. He’s hit this in his last 4 out of 5 games.
