The Columbus Blue Jackets (4-7-3) will head to Madison Square Garden Sunday night to take on the New York Rangers (10-2-1). Columbus is 2-5-3 in their last 10 games and are on a 4-game losing streak. New York on the other hand is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and have won their last 2 games.
New York is off to a hot start to some's surprise as they sit 1st in the Metro Division. Their offense is high pace and played very carefully. They rank in the bottom of the league in shots on goal per game with 27.5, but they rank 4th in shooting percentage with 12%.
Artemi Panarin leads this Rangers team this year with 22 points, which is tops in the league. He has 10 more points than the next player, who is Chris Kreider. The Rangers are without star defensemen and former Norris Trophy winner Adam Fox.
The Rangers have a great goaltending tandem this year. Returning is star and Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin and they picked up veteran goalie Jonathan Quick. Quick is 3-0-1 so yet to lose in regulation and Shesterkin is 6-2 so far on the year. Quick is expected to get the start tonight.
Columbus has been struggling this year, sitting 8th in the Metro Division. They returned core played Patrick Laine, Johnny Gaudreau and Boone Jenner. Blue Jackets #3 overall pick Adam Fantilli is finding his place with the team.
Fantilli has 2 goals and 5 assists through 13 games played. He is the starting 2nd line Center and plays the Left Wing on the 1st power play unit. He gets to play alongside Laine, Jenner and Gaudreau on that power play unit.
Goaltending has been questionable for the Jackets. Elvis Merzlikins, who is expected to start, is 3-3-2 with a 3.21 GAA and a .897 save percentage. Back up Spencer Martin is 1-3-1 with a 2.90 GAA and a .918 save percentage. Both goalies' numbers aren’t the worst, but they can’t get wins without offensive help.
The Jackets are going really going to need to bring their A game, but can they keep up with the Rangers?

Columbus Blue Jackets vs New York Rangers Prediction and Picks
Prediction and Pick: New York Rangers -1.5 (-102)
This should be almost like a layup for Rangers. Coming off 2 days rest and are hot as the sun right. They’re coming off nice win's vs the Wild and Red Wings which were wins by multiple goals.
Panarin, Kreider, Trocheck and Zibanejad have all been firing on offense. Their defense has also been playing well, ranking 2nd in goals allowed per game at 2.08. They also rank 2nd in shots on goal allowed per game with 27.4.
From their hot offense to their stingy defense, the Rangers are going to make it tough tonight. Expect them to find the back of the net numerous times and out play Columbus from start to finish. Covering 2 goals in the Garden shouldn’t be an issue tonight to take us to cash this almost even money ticket.
Player Prop: Artemi Panarin O2.5 Shots on Goal (-150)
I know this is a little juicy, but we’re going to pay the juice man here. The breadman has been on fire to start the year. He leads his team and is tied for 3rd in the league in points.
Panarin has hit this line in his last 4 games straight, his last 6 out of 7 games and his last 8 out of 10 games. This also has a little revenge narrative to it as well as the Blue Jackets are Panarin’s former team. He has played extremely well against them since leaving – hitting his shots on goal line the last 3 games and the last 6 our of 7 games.
We’re also going to sprinkle on his 4+ shots on goal for +168. With the way he has been playing and his history vs the Jackets, we have to move one rung up the ladder for some plus money. Love Artemi tonight to cash us.
