I still feel hungover from the Frozen Frenzy. In a slate that was very difficult to navigate we are back to the norm. A nice and tidy eight game slate this Thirsty Thursday to help ice any bruises from Tuesday. We have multiple strong teams who are coming off bad beats looking to bounce back. That means we could have some high scoring games throughout the slate to take advantage of! And plenty of tasty NHL player props to bet on.
We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all season! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.
And if you haven’t already be sure to check out some of my favorite futures and awards. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky for my favorite NHL best bets for 10/24/2024!
1. Alexis Lafrenière Point -125 on BetOnline:
One of the advantages of betting on the NHL is that as an often overlooked sport it can take Sportsbooks longer to adjust lines. Alexis Lafrenière is the perfect example of this. He has a point in every game this season besides his last game against Montreal. He plays on the New York Rangers top line with Panarin and Trochek, and is part of one of the top offenses in the league. Yet his point is only -125? Chalk it up to the Sportsbooks slow reaction.
Lafrenière really jumped out as a start player in the last quarter of the season and into the playoffs. The 2020 1st overall pick in the NHL draft hit in 63% of the 16 playoff games last season. He had 20 points in total during that run and was one of the Rangers top producers during their run to the Eastern Conference Finals. A run that was ended by the Florida Panthers.
The Panthers will come into enemy territory, playing against the red hot Rangers in New York. And you have to expect the Rangers have had this game circled since being eliminated by Florida last year. Lafrenière had four points against the Panthers in their series. He plays on the top line with ex-Panther Vincent Trochek and known Panther hunter Panarin. Panarin has a point in 11 of his last 15 games against the Panthers and Trochek has hit in 60% of his games against them.
There’s a good chance for Lafrenière to get on the score board in this revenge game making him an NHL best bet tonight. Especially at this price!

2. Dougie Hamilton o3.5 SOG for +130 on BetOnline:
It’s good to have Dougie back. He missed most of last season with an injury and his SOG prop was missed. So far out of the 9 games played this season Dougie has hit his 3.5 SOG line in 7 of them. He has averaged 3.6 shots on goal this season but more impressively has averaged 7.1 shot attempts per game.
Hamilton is the top power play quarterback, a spot he gets many of his shots from. While he doesn’t have the best history against the Red Wings, tonight could change that. The Red Wings are allowing the 5th most shots against to defensemen. They also allow the 3rd most shots against in the league.
The Red Wings also allow the league average amount of power play opportunities to opponents, meaning Dougie should get his chances on the PP. At plus money this prop holds too much value to pass. You can water him down to 2.5 SOG as a parlay piece, but with the way Hamilton fires I think this is an NHL best bet at 3.5 for +130.

3. Shayne Gostisbehere Point +115 on BetOnline:
We will keep riding the hot stick here and take Gostisbehere’s point yet again. He cashed us on a +135 point on Tuesday and tonight gets another decent target. The Carolina Hurricanes made many changes on their blue line this offseason. And one of those changes is really paying off. Offensive defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has started off hot with four goals already this season. He generated three of those off the power play which will be important for this matchup.
Tonight the Hurricanes continue a long roadtrip, this time stopping in Calgary. Gostisbehere doesn’t have the best history against the Flames but this young team feels like they have been over performing all season. While their come-down may not happen tonight, a well structured, disciplined team like the Hurricanes could frustrate them and take advantage of their inexperience.
That means there will be ample changes for Gostisbehere to net yet another point on the power play. Calgary have allowed the 11th most power play opportunities in the league. And while they have been strong defensively at even strength, they have the 10th worst penalty kill. The Hurricanes also have the 6th best power play, converting 28% of the time. This is bad news for the Flames who will need to play their best to eliminate chances on the PP. But it’s great as an NHL best bet, especially at plus money!
