The Betting News NHL Best Bets article got a little bit of a facelift. Now it’s time to find some discounts on NHL best bets. Just like always I’m looking for NHL player props with great value, whether that’s historical context or because a top player has recently broke a cold snap. Digging up value up and down the NHL slate and using those “coupons” to get great deals. We are now a 25-23 record over the last 16 articles with a positive unit size due to plenty of plus money plays cashing. Let’s snip some coupons and get some more green NHL player props!
We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all season! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.
And if you haven’t already be sure to check out some of my favorite futures and awards. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky for my favorite NHL best bets for 1/9/2025!
1. Jason Zucker + Tage Thompson point +135 on BetOnline:
At many points last season Buffalo Sabres top center Tage Thompson’s point prop was hovering around -190. Due to the teams lackluster performance through the month of December, where they went on a double digit winless streak, many Sabres’ players point props price came crashing down. Top defenseman Rasmus Dahlin is back, and the offense has begun to click again, yet the books are slow to adjust. Time to snip this coupon and stick it with another tasty point prop.
Both Tage and Jason Zucker play on the top line and top power play unit. They have found chemistry together all season. The big bodies Zucker has played the Alex Tuch “plumber” role of doing the dirty work while Tage and whoever else is put on the top line get pucks in net. Over the last 10 games Tage has a point in six of those games with 9 total points. In that same span Zucker has 10 points and also hitting in 6 games.
Stapling both of these players together give us nice plus money value at a discount. Especially when you consider the opponent. The Ottawa Senators have allowed 15 goals in the 5 gams since their starting goaltender Ullmark has gone out with injury. Three of those games they allowed 4 goals against. These are two teams that can score at will and both are leaky right now. This game is primed for an over and I think grabbing two of Buffalo’s top forwards for a point is an NHL best bet.

2. Jackson LaCombe Point +145 on BetOnline:
WHO?! Yeah it took me a minute to but the former 2nd round pick of the 2019 NHL draft is beginning to make an impact for the Anaheim Ducks. Ever since the Ducks moved top defenseman Cam Fowler to St. Louis (the team they just so happen to be playing tonight) LaCombe has been taking a big step up. LaCombe has taken over a spot on the top pair for the Ducks and the top power play unit.
While this is his second season in the NHL, it’s one where he is taking big steps forward. He already matched his 17 point total from the 2023-2024 season and his minutes have gone up, averaging 22.5 TOI per game over the last 10 games. He has a point in 3 straight and six points in the last 7 games, which has coincided with his promotion.
We are getting a HEAVY discount because he is a relatively unknown name. But what makes this pick even better is it is LaCombe’s birthday today. Sure that’s nothing but a gut call, but it may give him some extra motivation. That and playing against his former teammate and defensive mentor Fowler. Oh yeah the Blues have allowed 6 goals against in the past two games. Shout out to my dawg @Francothebanker for the birthday tip. Add it all up and getting LaCombe’s point for nearly 1.5x is an NHL best bet.

3. Adam Fanitlli Point +110 on BetOnline:
The Columbus Blue Jackets have the best offense in the entire league when they play at home. They are averaging a whopping 4.19 goals for per game when they play at home this season. So why would their top center be plus money tonight for a point? Well that is because Adam Fantilli is playing spot duty for the injured Sean Monahan.
Fantilli was widely regarded as an elite two-way center with a scoring knack in the 2023 NHL draft. While the large center has taken some time to adjust to the NHL he is starting to find his groove. He has 9 goals and 10 assists through 19 games while largely playing on the 2nd or 3rd line and 2nd power play. Tonight he will take center at the top line for Columbus as they take on the Seattle Kraken, making his point an NHL best bet.
The Kraken have been slipping. Their top goaltender is injured and they are allowing the 7th most goals against in the league while playing on the road. Fantilli will be next to the two burgeoning stars of the Blue Jackets, Marchenko and Voronkov. These two wingers have put up 16 and 15 points over the last 10 game. Let’s get in on that production at a discount by taking their new centerman.
