This will be the last article for January, and only three more NHL best bet pieces until the two week long Four Nations break. The slates have become a bit harder to predict as some big NHL names have slowed down with the season past the 50 game mark and others making up for lost time. It seems like jumping on “last 5 game” trends may be the way to go, even if match ups don’t look spectacular. But that also means we should find some discounted props! Let’s find some “coupons” to get great deals. We are now a 32-31 record over the last 21 articles with a positive unit size due to plenty of plus money plays cashing. Let’s snip some coupons and get some more green NHL player props!
We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all season! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.
And if you haven’t already be sure to check out some of my favorite futures and awards. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky for my favorite NHL best bets for 1/30/2025!
1. Jared Spurgeon point +145 on BetOnline:
As I mentioned above, with the Four Nations Faceoff break looming, it seems best to target players in 5 game chunks. Find players who are hot right now, that have some value and hope they continue their streaks. It seems like some of the bigger names in the league are salivating at a chance to take a break and recover, while other players are making up for slow starts or injuries. Jared Spurgeon is one of those players.
The Minnesota Wild have been plagued with injuries this season, with All-Star forward Kaprizov out with a surgery and top defensemen Brock Faber and Spurgeon both in and out with injury. But since his return four games ago Spureon is picking up the slack. He has a point in three games straight and is playing big minutes quarterbacking the top power play unit.
Tonight the Wild will play the Canadiens, a team fighting for a wildcard spot. The Canadiens are allowing the 11th most goals against and the most powerplay opportunities to opponents over the last 10 games. This bodes well for Spurgeon who had a power play goal last game. Spurgeon has hit in 3 of the last 5 games he has played against the Canadiens, adding to the deep discount of this NHL best bet.

2. Vince Dunn o2.5 SOG +120 on BetOnline:
We like to target the San Jose Sharks for SOG (shots on goal). Especially by defensemen. Over the past couple seasons they have been a fantastic target and tonight is no different. Enter Vince Dunn, the Seattle Kraken’s top defenseman who has been ripping pucks lately.
Over the past three games Dunn has hit his SOG prop. In fact he has 5 of the last 7 games. More impressively are his shot attempts. In the last 5 games Dunn is averaging 6.2 shot attempts per game. He’s coming off an 11 shot attempt and 8 SOG game against the Ducks. He’s feeling it.
The San Jose Sharks are allowing the most shots against across this season. Over the last 10 games they have been a bit better, but still allow the 4th most shots against. But what makes this really a best bet is that the Sharks are very vulnerable to defensemen. They allow the 2nd most shots to the postion, making Dunn one of my favorite player prop coupons tonight.

3. Mason McTavish Point +120 on BetOnline:
We are going right back to him and I don’t even care. Mason McTavish was a top draft pick in the 2021 NHL draft. But in his first couple seasons he has not truly broken out. In fact his head coach just made a statement about how he is “a 3rd line center”. Since those comments McTavish has been lightning it up with 7 points in four games, six of which were goals. Tonight he has an opportunity to keep the streak going.
The Anaheim Ducks will face a Calgary Flames. This will be a tougher matchup compared to Tuesday when he faced a leaky Kraken team lead by Grubauer. Calgary are ranked 21st in goals against per game over the last 10 games. However, at home they are much more leaky, allowing the 9th most goals against per game and the 3rd most power play opportunities to opponents. This let’s us get that deep discount on a McTavish point.
As mentioned before, we are going to ride waves as our primary tactic to find value. And all three of these players have been hot, making their props heavily discounted and NHL best bets tonight.
