The rather hot New York Islanders (13-7-7) go for their 4th win in a row tonight vs the Anaheim Ducks (10-17-0) at UBS Arena. New York is coming off a 4-3 overtime win vs the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night.
They are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games and are 4-0-1 in their last 5 games. In the last 5 games played, they have scored 22 goals and allowed 16 goals. This is a huge positive for the Isles because they’re defense had been nonexistent.
Players are really finding themselves now. Mat Barzal leads the team with 29 points and Noah Dobson surprisingly is in 2nd with 27 points. Last year’s pick up and now future long term Islander Bo Horvat has really started to find himself. He and Barzal on one line has been fun to watch.
Ilya Sorokin in net has been the backbone of this Islanders team. His record of 8-4-6 doesn’t really show how well he’s been playing. So many times, he’s been left with no defense in the 3rd period and the games resulted in losses or overtime losses.
The lack of defense has led to his GAA (3,11) and save percentage (.914) lower than expected. He’s going to need defensive support for the long haul. The Islanders have been keeping up on the offensive end to give him a lead.
This is a nice spot for the Isles to keep things going. Backup goaltender Semyon Varlamov will be between the pipes tonight, who has really had Sorokin’s back. He has a 5-3-1 record with a 2.56 GAA and a .925 save percent.
Anaheim is on a rough skid right now. They’re on a 3-game losing streak and are 1-9 in their last 10 games. Last game they played was Sunday, a 4-2 loss to the Jets, so they’ll come in on some rest, but not sure that’ll be enough.
This Ducks team has faced some injuries so far this year. Trevor Zegras has been on the IR with a lower body injury and McTavish has out with an upper body injury. These 2 are huge parts of this team's offense, so it hurts to not have them.
Frank Vatrano has been leading the team in their absence. He leads the team with 14 goals and 23 points. McTavish is behind him with 10 goals and 11 assists. Although their success, the team ranks in the bottom of the league in goals forced and shots on goal per game.
Goaltending has been “sus” as these kids would say. John Gibson’s record is 5-12-0 and has a 2.86 GAA and a .906 save percentage. Backup goalie Lukas Dostal is 5-5-0 but has a 3.86 GAA and .885 save percentage.
The Ducks haven’t done very well vs the Islanders in their last 5 games. Let’s check out the odds, talk more about their history and some picks.

Anaheim Ducks vs New York Islanders Prediction and Picks
Prediction and Pick: New York Islanders -1.5 (+105) MyBookie
As mentioned in the first few words of this article, the Isles are kind of hot right now. They have a good history vs the Ducks over the last 2 years. They’re 4-0 in those 4 games and have outscored the Ducks 21-7.
The Islanders have been firing on all cylinders and I expect them to keep it up at home against this shaky Ducks teams. During this 6-game home stint, they have scored 18 goals in the first 4 games. If they can play some defense against a weaker team, then they should coast.
I like New York to cover the puck line and cash the plus money. They’ll need to play a full game and not fall apart in the 3rd period like they have been. This is a great spot for them to break this crap run we’re on and play a full 60 minutes on both ends of the ice.
