A battle between 2 teams where 1 has a lot to play for while the other is playing for the top lottery spot. The New York Islanders (27-20-14) take their 4-game winning streak to San Jose to play the Sharks (15-39-7).
The Islanders come into this game red hot and have moved to 4th in the Metro Division. New York is 5-3-2 in their last 10 games and 4-1-0 in their last 5 games. On the road, the Isles aren’t the best with a 12-12-5 record.
Offensively, the Isles have come to play. They’re averaging 3 goals per game and are also 25-4-10 when scoring 3 goals or more. New York only averages 30 shots on goal per game with a 9.9% shooting percentage, both rank around 20th in the league.
Defense has been somewhat optional this year. The Isles rank last in the league for shots on goal allowed and penalty kill. It has put a lot of work on the goaltending not getting the protection they need.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin is expected to get the start. He has a 21-13-11 record and the 11 OTL’s is crazy. His GAA is 3.03 and he has a save percentage of .909. It’s been a rough year for Sorokin, but he’s a stud looking to have a strong run at the end of the season.
On the other side of things, the Sharks have struggled all year. They’re sitting last place of the Pacific Division and are on an 8-game losing streak.
The Sharks are 9-18-3 at home, so they technically win more at home, but are 1-7-2 in their last 10 games. They have also lost their last 6 home games.
I hate to just keep shatting on the Sharks, but just talking about them seems that way (lol). They rank last in goals scored and shots on goal forced as well as goals allowed and shots on goal allowed.
Goalie Kappo Kahkonen is expected to be in net for the Sharks. His record is 6-20-3 with a 3.82 GAA and .895 save percentage. He has been nothing short of terrible this year.

The Islanders are playing great hockey right now and at the right time of year. I really expect them to come out hot in this game for the early lead.
They will have the bad taste in their mouth from blowing the last game these 2 teams played. It should be more fuel to get them going in this game.
Guys like Mat Barzel and Bo Horvat have been playing incredible as of late. Defenseman Noah Dobson is having a career season himself. Expect all 3 of these boys to be leading the way in this game.
We’re going to take the puck line. The Islanders are coming have a good win vs the Blues just the other night. I think they keep the momentum going into this game and get the easy W here.
