See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning will face off in Game 6 Thursday night. Toronto holds a 3-2 lead in a back-and-forth series.
Neither team has won more than one game in a row during this first round matchup. Game 5 went the way of the Maple Leafs after a late goal by Auston Matthews broke the 3-3 tie and gave the Leafs a 4-3 victory.
The offense picked up for Toronto after the first period. They trailed 2-0 in Game 5 but had the ability to put together two strong periods of playoff hockey to pull out a gutsy win.
Heading into Game 6, Tampa is on the verge of being eliminated for the first time in nearly three years. They get to play at least one more game in front of their home crowd and would like to make it memorable.
Tampa Bay has the edge in the odds prior to the Game 6 tilt. Their home ice advantage and ability to bounce back after losses may give them the edge they need to pull out a Game 6 victory and force a seventh game.

Tampa to Strike Fast
The Tampa offense has started quickly in their last two games. They have 5 goals in the first period between the last two games. Add that to the fact that Tampa’s last 4 games at Amalie arena have gone over 1.5 goals in the first period, and you have yourself a lot of offense.
If the Lightning want to avoid elimination in Game 6, they will have to play fast and aggressive without taking too many penalties. Toronto is the best when it comes to power play scoring, so they need to avoid having people in the penalty box.
Seven of the last eight games between these two teams have gone over the total goals line, including 4 of 5 games in this series so far. Tampa has been on both sides of this trend, scoring lots of goals like in Game 4 and also being scored upon too much like in Games 1 and 3.
The Lightning have played better with the lead for the most part during this series. The only exception was Game 5 when Toronto erased a two goal deficit and ultimately won the game.
Tampa will still want to be out in front and gain a comfortable lead in Game 6. Toronto’s offense has too many weapons to play with, and the Tampa defense has been inconsistent at stopping them.
I expect another high scoring, back-and-forth game between these two. I would expect Tampa to play well in front of the home crowd and make the necessary adjustments needed to force a Game 7 back in Toronto.
Maple Leafs vs Lightning Prediction and Best Bets
Maple Leafs vs. Lightning Prediction: Lightning 5, Maple Leafs 4
Maple Leafs vs. Lightning Best Bets: Over 6.5 total goals (-120 on Bovada Sportsbook and on BetUS and -115 on BetOnline Sportsbook)
Both teams are scoring at a high rate during this series. I expect this to continue on Thursday night. I can’t see less than 7 goals being scored in this game, and that is why I am comfortable with an over bet on this game.
