See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2022-23 NHL season continues on Thursday, Dec. 15 with a massive schedule of 12 games, including a huge Eastern Conference tilt between the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers. With both sides being powerhouses in their conference, there’s a good chance that this Maple Leafs vs Rangers showdown could wind up being the game of the night.
The Maple Leafs haven’t tasted a regulation loss in what seems like forever. They’re 12-0-3 in their last 15 games, coming off a 7-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday. Several Toronto players had notable performances, including Mitchell Marner, who extended his franchise-leading point streak to 23 games with a two-assist effort.
Meanwhile, the Rangers won their fourth game in a row with Monday’s 4-3 overtime victory against the rival New Jersey Devils. Filip Chytil won the game for his team at 2:15 into overtime, leaving time to tell if his team can build on that success tonight.
As with most notable matchups, there are plenty of betting opportunities in this Maple Leafs vs Rangers tilt. Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest odds for the games, as well as a prediction and the best bet to make, courtesy of Betting News.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs New York Rangers Prediction and Picks
Maple Leafs vs Rangers Prediction: Maple Leafs 5, Rangers 4
Maple Leafs vs Rangers Picks: Maple Leafs ML (Best Value: -120 at BetOnline) & Over 6 Goals (Best Value: -114 at BetOnline)
The Rangers have had the Maple Leafs’ number more often than not over the last few seasons. New York has won six of its last eight meetings against Toronto, outscoring the opposition 28-21 over that stretch.
Furthermore, the Maple Leafs have only won one of their last four trips to Madison Square Garden, having not beaten the Rangers in New York since December 2019.
Having said that, this isn’t the same Toronto team from past seasons. As mentioned previously, the Maple Leafs have won 12 of their last 15 games, looking unstoppable more often than not. They’ve also won each of their last four games, scoring four-plus goals in each outing while recording shutouts in three.
Although the Rangers have also won four straight outings, they needed overtime and a shootout to solve their most recent two outings. Needless to say, things could’ve gone differently with some different puck bounces.
Something else that makes it tough to trust the Rangers is that they haven’t been great on home ice lately. New York is 3-5-2 in its last 10 games at Madison Square Garden, allowing four-plus goals in six of those contests.
On the flip side, the Maple Leafs are 7-0-1 in their last eight road games. Marner and Auston Matthews have played big roles in their team’s success away from home, recording 10 and 11 points, respectively, in that span. Not to be outdone, William Nylander is tied for the team lead with six goals in those eight away games.
Speaking of Marner, BetOnline has him at +205 to score and -154 to record an assist when it comes to continuing his point streak.
As great as the Rangers are on their best nights, the Maple Leafs are, simply, on another level right now. Everything is clicking for Toronto’s best players and it’d take a monumental effort to slow them down. In other words, I’m taking the Leafs to win this one.
Fortunately, the moneyline odds are playable due to how evenly matched these teams can be. The Maple Leafs at -120 odds is a solid bargain, so feel free to back that as one of the best bets.
I also recommend going with the total hitting over six goals. For starters, four of the last six Maple Leafs vs Rangers matchups have surpassed that total. Secondly, the total has gone over six goals in three of Toronto’s last five games, as well as in four of New York’s last five.
If both sides play up to their potential, we should have another high-scoring affair on our hands tonight.
