Auston Matthews’ 50th and 51st goals of the season played a big role in the Maple Leafs’ 6-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes last night, extending their winning streak to five games. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights hope to return to the win column after falling 5-3 to the Nashville Predators earlier this week.
Both clubs are in the mix as far as championship contenders go this year. Vegas is currently tied for the ninth-best 2023-24 Stanley Cup odds (+1400) while Toronto isn’t much further back in 11th (+1600), per BetOnline’s futures markets.

Maple Leafs vs Golden Knights Prediction & Pick (2/22): Toronto Rises to the Occasion
It’s a quick turnaround for the Maple Leafs, who were in Arizona less than 24 hours ago. Sheldon Keefe’s club has shown mixed results when it comes to back-to-back games this season, going 4-3 SU when playing with zero days of rest. Having said that, Toronto is 3-1 SU when those games take place on the road.
The Maple Leafs are also getting a boost tonight in the form of defenseman Morgan Rielly, who was serving a five-game suspension. Toronto went flawless 5-0-0 during his absence, outscoring those opponents 27-11 on aggregate.
Time will tell if the Leafs can keep that momentum against the Golden Knights, who are in a bit of a rut. Vegas has lost three of its last four games with each of those defeats taking place at T-Mobile Arena.
The Maple Leafs, meanwhile, have won five of their last seven road contests, as well as two of their last four trips to Sin City.
Time cools tempers.
So, it wasn't all that surprising that Morgan Rielly was calm and measured when discussing the heated reaction that led to his five-game suspension, 11 days after the fact. (@lukefoxjukebox) https://t.co/cYYsTU5aA4

Another thing working against the Golden Knights’ favor is that they’ll be without team captain Mark Stone. General manager Kelly McCrimmon announced on Wednesday that Stone will be sidelined “for a while” after racking up 53 points in 56 games.
It’ll also be interesting to see if Vegas can solve its power play struggles. Over the last eight games, the Golden Knights are only 3-for-23 (13.0%) on the man advantage. The Leafs, on the other hand, are operating with a 63.6 PP% (14-for-22) over their last nine games with eight of those power-play goals coming in the last four games alone.
Vegas does own the 11th-best penalty kill this season, though.
After Ilya Samsonov picked up the win last night, you can expect Martin Jones to be Toronto’s starting goalie tonight. The veteran netminder has struggled to produce wins lately, though, going 2-4-1 with a 3.79 goals-against average and .865 save percentage in his last seven starts.
On the flip side, Vegas is likely rolling with Adin Hill, who has played to a 6-3-0 record with a 2.47 GAA and .923 SV% in his nine previous appearances.
Golden Knights G Adin Hill has been fantastic in his latest starts.
In what should be a highly competitive contest, I’m taking the Maple Leafs to upset the Golden Knights. Toronto is riding high from last night’s win and has a great chance to capitalize on that momentum against a slumping Vegas squad that’s on a skid at home. Even with Hill playing well, the Leafs have more than enough firepower to give him a headache or two.
With that in mind, taking Toronto outright is the way to go. Again, the Maple Leafs are 3-1 SU in road games with zero days of rest this season, proving that they know how to step up on short notice.

Best Maple Leafs vs Golden Knights NHL Player Prop (2/22)
Let’s go with an Auston Matthews anytime goal for the best Maple Leafs vs. Golden Knights player prop tonight.
After scoring two goals last night, Matthews now has 18 goals in his last 14 games, which finding the back of the net in 11 of those contests. The two-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner has also scored in four consecutive outings, racking up nine total goals during that stretch.
Considering how he also has eight goals in his last eight meetings with the Golden Knights, I’ll be shocked if Matthews doesn’t find the twine again tonight.
